GE Energy, EPC Companies Showcase Teamwork Required for Global Infrastructure Projects
ISTANBUL, Turkey--17 November 2008-- GE Energy today began a two-day, first-of-its-kind energy summit in Istanbul, Turkey with the leading project management companies from Europe, Asia, the Middle East and Africa to showcase new technology and strategies aimed at helping countries address their urgent energy demands and environmental challenges.
With energy demand expected to double by 2030, and global warming concerns driving new government policies to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, the need for large scale energy projects continues to grow. At the summit, participants will discuss the opportunities and challenges in meeting these demands and innovative ways to support infrastructure development in established and emerging markets.
More than 250 engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) company representatives will be attending the summit, where the participants will discuss global energy demand trends, the latest power generation technologies and large project needs. GE and the EPCs will explore ways to benefit from each company's local capabilities, global capacity and unique technical expertise.
"Today, our customers are increasingly demanding local integrated solutions for energy infrastructure projects. This makes it even more vital that we work as closely as possible with EPC companies to deliver the most comprehensive, cost-effective technology," said John Krenicki, GE vice chairman and president and CEO of GE Energy Infrastructure. "GE, working with strong, experienced EPC companies, has the scale and expertise to take up the most challenging customer needs and develop these complex projects around the world."
GE Energy Infrastructure provides advanced energy technology and services for various projects, including power generating plants, water desalination and treatment systems, and oil and gas equipment and services for that sector.
"These alliances are especially important to meet the requirements of developing countries in the Eastern Europe, Southeast Asia, Middle East and Africa regions where infrastructure projects are helping to support strong economic growth," said Magued Eldaief, GE Energy Infrastructure Global Accounts & Partnerships executive director.
