GE Helps Extend Performance of Your Athletic Gear

June 12, 2012

  • Laundering your goods the right way can get you extra mileage on everything from tennis shoes to golf shirts
  • Remove stains, such as grass and perspiration, easily with Stain Inspector, a feature that recognizes and treats 40 of the most common stains
  • Get extra sleep the night before a big game with GE's washer with Overnight Ready, a cycle that cleans clothes and has them ready to wear overnight without moving them to the dryer

LOUISVILLE, Ky., --- June 12, 2012 --- (NYSE: GE) --- From baseball to soccer, when you play hard, you get dirty. On the flip side, the duds you donned pay the price.

And the price for sports gear is high. With performance fabrics running at premium prices, brand name tennis shoes priced well over $100, and the cost of the equipment, indulging in your favorite hobby or sport can be an expensive investment.

Many Americans are spending increasingly more for sportswear. According to Textile Exchange, the worldwide market size of performance sportswear, or synthetic fabric made especially to reduce moisture, is currently estimated at $6.4 billion, which is up 19.4 percent over the last four years.[1]

Why let your money wash away? Get the most out of your investment with the latest technology in laundry.

  • As performance fabric has advanced, so have the tools to care for it. Often chemically treated to wick away or shed moisture, the fabric needs to be treated with care. To help extend the life of textiles like Dri-Weave apparel and Nike® Dri-FIT™, GE's Profile™ frontload washer offers the Performance Cycle wash, which uses specific temperatures and spin speeds to reduce agitation on the fabric.
  • Other sports-related laundry may need a more aggressive approach. A rough day on the field may leave a clay skid running up the side of your baseball pants or a bloody patch on your jersey. With the Stain Inspector recognizing 40 pre-programmed stains, this feature on the GE Profile frontload washer is pre-set to optimally treat those stains and others like grass and perspiration.
  • Dirt-encrusted or funky-smelling tennis shoes will need a good washing from time to time. GE's Profile frontload washer has a tennis shoe cycle, which won't damage the shoe. With no spinning and an extra-light wash cycle, this option is gentle enough to keep your shoes intact while getting them clean.
  • If letting your shoes air dry is holding you back from this chore, choose the baffle dry system in GE Profile's dryer. The dryer rack holds your shoes and dries them with heat and air movement, minus the tumbling and loud noise.
  • You can also save some money upfront when you use the washer's innovative Overnight Ready cycle that washes clothes, then removes so much moisture that clothes are comfortable to wear without transferring them to the dryer.[2] It's the first unit in the industry with the ability to wash small loads[3] on an overnight cycle. This feature comes in handy during tournaments when you need to store up your energy for the big game.

"Saving money and getting extra sleep with laundry technology will keep you ahead of the competition," says Paul Riley, marketing manager for GE Laundry Care.
