* Seno Advantage Workstation, acquisition of Image Diagnost (IDI) and newest innovations in PACS solidify GE's mammography workflow offerings
* SenographeTM Essential Interventional is the new add-on digital stereotaxy option
Dubai, UAE; January 27, 2009: Recognizing the diverse workflow needs of its breast imaging customers, GE Healthcare is showcasing the company's latest workflow solutions for the global mammography market at Arab Health 2009, the region's leading healthcare exhibition, currently being held at the Dubai International Convention Centre.
This year, GE is also launching its latest innovation, the SenographeTM Essential Interventional, GE's latest innovation for breast biopsy, designed to improve clinical confidence, accuracy and comfort in biopsies. In only few minutes the digital mammography system can be transformed into a biopsy system with a lateral table, using the same detector for both procedures. The result is superior image quality, increased access to lesions and patient comfort.

GE is also launching its latest innovation for breast biopsies in the Middle East, with the SenographeTM Essential Interventional, an add-on digital stereotaxy option on the company's proven Senographe Essential digital mammography platform.
These advanced solutions from GE are particularly relevant for the Middle East region, where the number of deaths caused by breast cancer is projected to increase by 34 per cent by 2015.
"Worldwide, we are seeing a growing need from our customers for a breast biopsy solution that maintains productivity from screening to diagnosis." said David Caumartin, General Manager of GE Healthcare's mammography business. "The SenographeTM Essential Interventional supports the full management of an individual patient by screening using the industry's most outstanding digital detector and diagnosing using a seamlessly integrated biopsy platform with flexibility and consistent image quality."
In order to address the unique needs of the breast imaging customers it serves, GE has added the Image Diagnost (IDI) acquisition workstation to support its trusted Seno Advantage Workstation. Image Diagnost supports multi-vendor reading of full field digital mammography images and the ability to easily share information from multiple image sites to one central reading hub.
"GE's acquisition of Image Diagnost was an ideal complement to our commitment to providing one of the best workstation platform for mammography in the industry," said Caumartin. "With this new platform, we will provide our customers with a complete solution that meets the demand for flexibility with multiple vendor images while maintaining an ease of use and outstanding image clarity."
For PACS users, GE Healthcare is also presenting its new CentricityÒ PACS Mammography module to meet the needs of customers who are reading multi-modality images in large multi-center facilities. Centricity PACS from GE offers efficiency and productivity in breast imaging reading by combining the workflow benefits of PACS with a specialized toolset for digital mammography --- all within a single workstation. By incorporating a mammography workflow module within PACS, users can now make advances in both screening and diagnostics workflows. Combining the module and PACS can enhance diagnostic capabilities across all modalities, including mammography, magnetic resonance imaging and ultrasound, which can result in improvements in efficiency and productivity.

GE Healthcare is also showcasing its Mammography Administration Module (MAM™), a module of Centricity® RIS, which maintains records on all aspects of breast imaging exams. MAM tracks patients with recommendations for additional procedures, and generates follow-up letters for patients and their healthcare providers.

The SenographeTM Essential Interventional for breast biopsies lets users perform biopsies without the expense of a dedicated biopsy room. The add-on solution enables technologists to quickly transition from initial screening applications to diagnostics, and if needed - to interventional procedures, all in one room.
By using the industry's largest full field digital detector on the SenographeTM Essential, the Interventional system allows clinicians easy localization of lesions and a consistency in image quality for diagnosis and biopsy. Once pinpointed, the new system allows for vertical and lateral approach in accessing the lesion, improving overall efficiency and patient comfort while maintaining clinical confidence.
The SenographeTM Essential provides the industry's largest field-of-view which means it can accommodate a diverse range of patient shapes and sizes -- all with outstanding image quality due to GE's proven digital flat-panel detector with high Detective Quantum Efficiency (DQE).
These new innovative technologies are on display at the GE Healthcare stand (Hall 4 - Stand D20) at the exhibition in the Dubai International Exhibition Centre. Note to Editors
