GE Healthcare Showcases Latest Advancements in CT Dose Reduction at Arab Health 2011

January 23, 2011

  • GE Healthcare features latest imaging innovations throughout its entire CT product family at Arab Health
  • GE's Optima CT660 installed at Royal Commission Al Jubayl in Al Jubayl Industrial City, Saudi Arabia

Dubai, UAE; January 24, 2011: According to WHO (World Health Organization), almost 40 percent of mortality in the Middle East region is due to cardiovascular diseases, cancer and diabetes. Computed Tomography (CT) technology's early diagnosis capability is a key tool to address this public health issue.

GE Healthcare, the healthcare business of General Electric Company (GE), will showcase its comprehensive CT portfolio including its exceptional ASiR (adaptive statistical iterative reconstruction) low dose reconstruction technology, available on GE Discovery™ CT750 HD, Optima™ CT660 and BrightSpeedTM Elite, at Arab Health 2011, Dubai, the world's second largest healthcare exhibition that will be held from January 24 to 27 at the Dubai International Convention Center.

Aziz Koleilat, General Manager, GE Healthcare for the Middle East region, said the new CT technologies are a perfect complement to GE's approach of promoting an 'earlier model' of healthcare, where the emphasis is on early diagnosis which enhances the efficiency of treatment and care.

GE's ASiR can reduce dose by up to 40-50 percent while maintaining image quality and may be implemented as a cost-effective upgrade for existing GE CT customers.

"For decades, GE Healthcare has invested in leading, advanced technology for significantly lowering dose in computed tomography (CT) procedures. GE is the first CT provider able to offer ASiR low-dose technology across most of its CT portfolio. More than 12,000 patients per day benefit from ASiR scans, and over 7 million patients already benefited from low dose scans," he added.

GE's Model-based Iterative Reconstruction Technology - Veo

GE is also highlighting the newest low-dose technology in the company's CT portfolio -- a model-based iterative reconstruction (MBIR) technology called Veo™. Compared to previous GE reconstruction methods, Veo's capabilities "change the rules" of CT imaging by applying revolutionary new modeling techniques to deliver lower noise, resolution gain, improved low contrast detectability and artifact suppression. Images ---ultra low dose levels--- will be shown in the GE booth for various routine scan types.

Optima CT660 -- Built to care

Highlighting the increased applications of GE technology regionally, GE Healthcare installed its Optima CT660 at Royal Commission Al Jubayl in Al Jubayl Industrial City, Saudi Arabia. This system is a modular, all-round computer tomography (CT) product for use across applications that allows users to lower doses of radiation, helps reduce energy consumption and is cost-effective. It is especially suitable for use in clinics and general hospitals. Optima CT660 is GE ecomagination-certified and has been validated under the healthymagination initiative. These are two of GE's global initiatives aimed at transforming healthcare delivery through innovations, partnerships and sustainability.

Brightspeed Elite with AsiR -- SMALL GIANT

ASiR on BrightSpeed extends low dose reduction up to 40 percent while maintaining the image quality. By increasing image quality and reducing noise it boosts the power of the generator of the BrightSpeed Elite up to 88KW delivering less dose. The technological advance also enables BrightSpeed Elite with ASiR to increase scanning speed to the equivalent speed of a 50 slices helical scanner. Efficiency, enhanced patient comfort, improved positioning, innovative console for the fastest possible workflow and integrated injector for reliable and easy scanning are other features.

Introducing Dexus AND ONCOQUANT

Dexus™ enables seamless workflow environment that helps optimize your reading experience and productivity, from image acquisition to communication of results. It links imaging devices, clinical applications, and IT, to enable access to advanced visualization tools across modalities and care areas. Dexus is built on the trusted AW platform, and takes your reading workflow to a new level of efficiency.

OncoQuant™ enables simple, automated workflow for routine oncology reading. Time-consuming and labor-intensive, oncology follow-up studies make up over 70 percent of routine reviews. OncoQuant imaging software streamlines this process - so you can spend less time retrieving studies and preparing exams, and more time reading and reviewing.

"GE's commitment offers tremendous promise for equipping radiologists and technologists with breakthrough technologies to reduce patient dose and improve image quality in their daily practice," said Livio Orlandi Contucci, General Manager CT for Eastern and African Growth Markets at GE Healthcare. "Through low-dose innovations, educational symposia and collaborating directly with customers and the industry, we strive to help improve the overall care provided to patients."

GE Healthcare, a Platinum Sponsor of Arab Health 2011, is showcasing its innovative technologies, services and solutions at its pavilion, Hall 4 G30.
