GE Healthcare to showcase latest additions to ultrasound product line at Arab Health 2012

January 23, 2012

  • Latest innovations bring exceptional realism to ultrasound imaging
  • Helping to meet the growing demands of today's ultrasound department

Dubai, UAE; January 24, 2012: GE Healthcare, the healthcare business of GE (NYSE: GE), is showcasing its latest advances in ultrasound at Arab Health 2012, the region's premier healthcare exhibition being held at the Dubai International Convention & Exhibition Center.

To meet growing needs and demand for ultrasound technology in the region and worldwide, GE Healthcare is accelerating its development of solutions and tools that help advance the capabilities of ultrasound in a wide range of clinical areas.

"GE Healthcare is committed to delivering ultrasound technology that provides extraordinary image quality, facilitates workflow and offers advanced technological tools to help improve exam quality," said Hisham Youssef, general manager for Ultrasound at GE Healthcare in the EAGM region.

"We are seeing great growth in ultrasound usage in this region and for that reason, GE Healthcare will continue to invest and grow our presence to help meet the growing demands of our customers. In today's healthcare environment, clinicians are tasked with doing more in less time, without compromising the quality of care and our goal at GE Healthcare is to help enable that with high-quality, cost-effective ultrasound products."

Underling this commitment, GE Healthcare has unveiled the following new products and a range of breakthroughs in ultrasound at Arab Health:

LOGIQ S8

The LOGIQ S8 is a lightweight, portable ultrasound system that fits easily into small exam rooms, can be easily transported within a facility and provides superb images across a variety of clinical areas including abdominal, breast, vascular, musculoskeletal and cardiology.

Built upon established LOGIQ technologies, the LOGIQ S8 helps provide outstanding image quality and allows for a streamlined workflow that helps clinicians shorten exam times, as well as create consistent, highly detailed images that help increase clinical confidence. The combinations of advanced features and system design help create the balance between performance and affordability.

Its features include: S-Agile Ultrasound, a proprietary GE Healthcare technology that uses flexible clinically-based models of the body to help deliver consistently clear images for virtually all body types, and is particularly important given the growing number of overweight and obese patients who are being seen by healthcare providers; Scan Assistant, a software that allows for a streamlined workflow, enabling the operator to customize the system to perform frequently used functions automatically, helping to reduce busy work and exam times; and extreme ergonomics, which accommodates the stature and working style of sonographers, and helps reduce user fatigue and risk of injury, while enabling high-quality exams and efficient workflow.

Voluson

The company is showcasing the latest innovations for the Voluson Expert Series platform, including HDlive, which provides exceptional anatomical realism and helps increase depth perception. The innovative imaging capability can help medical professionals achieve a deeper understanding of relational anatomy, help enhance diagnostic confidence and improve communication with patients. This is available on the Voluson E8 and E8 Expert.

Instead of single slice imaging, Volume SRI (Speckle Reduction Imaging) utilizes volumetric, multi-plane imaging to enhance the speckle reduction in clinical images. The tool helps improve 3D/4D image quality in multi-planar studies and rendered mode, and also provides an enhanced smoothing effect on rendered images.

"The imaging potential of these latest GE Healthcare innovations is unlike anything we've developed in the past," said Karl-Heinz Lumpi, General Manager of Women's Health Ultrasound for GE Healthcare. "Through the HDlive and Volume SRI technologies, we intend to make advanced women's health imaging through ultrasound more prevalent and accessible. These technologies have the potential to help medical providers provide better care for more patients around the world."

GE Healthcare has several decades of presence in the Middle East region, and its technologies support an overwhelming majority of hospitals. Now in its 37th year, Arab Health is expected to host over 70,000 healthcare professionals, and will feature over 3,000 companies from around the world.
