Riyadh, Saudi Arabia; February 17, 2013: GE Healthcare, the healthcare business of GE (NYSE: GE), will showcase its advanced coronary care technologies in addition to conducting specialized training programs and workshops at the 10th Gulf Heart Association conference, with the event also marking the 24th annual conference of Saudi Heart Assocaiton.
GE Healthcare is a Diamond Sponsor of the event, which is being held from February 13 to 16, 2013, at InterContinental, Riyadh. The event aims to bring cardiac care experts and caregivers from across the Gulf and other parts of the world to share their knowledge and expertise to improve cardiac care delivery in the region.
The company had a dedicated stand at the venue showcasing its integrated 'Connected Cardiovascular Care' approach to improving quality of care and efficiency highlighting the acute coronary syndrome care pathway. The stand will feature the newest technologies developed by GE to empower healthcare professionals with the right information, at the right time and in the right place.
Ali Saleh, President & CEO for GE Healthcare in Saudi Arabia, said: "One of the key challenges in the healthcare sector of the Kingdom is the rising incidence of heart-related disorders. Led by factors such as sedentary lifestyles, smoking and obesity, coronary diseases also put pressure on the cost of healthcare delivery. Through our partnership with the event, we are underlining the importance of an earlier model of care to manage cardiovascular conditions through timely diagnosis and care. GE is also working with the community to promote healthy lifestyle practices, underlined by our healthymagination initiative."
At the event, GE Healthcare will showcase its advanced cardiac care technologies covering the acute coronary syndrome care pathway through its comprehensive portfolio of cardiology solutions for healthcare providers across triage, treatment, post-procedure and follow-up to optimize patient care and workflow.
These solutions enable better access to patient data, maximum decision making efficiency and timely interventions in the management of acute coronary syndromes, in addition to a leading spectrum of cardiac imaging products for patient follow-up.
GE Healthcare is also committed to providing training programs with a cardiac CT workshop to be held for cardiologists in the coming year and access to 400 nurses to the company's Nursing Library of Online Education in partnership with the Saudi Heart Association.
In addition, GE will conduct two guest lectures on Feb. 15, presented by Malek El Husseini General Manager, Diagnostic Cardiology, Life Care Solutions Eastern & African Growth Markets on 'Cardiology is a matter of Heart,' and by Arindam Mukherjee, Head of Global Marketing, Cardiology, on 'Integrated Acute Coronary Syndrome Management.'
Underlining GE's commitment to promote healthy living, the company, in partnership with Saudi Arabia's Ministry of Health, had conducted a survey (http://visualization.geblogs.com/visualization/ksa_survey/) that examined the relationship between the lifestyle choices of Saudi Arabian consumers and their health.
While 91 percent of Saudis who were surveyed consider themselves to be having "excellent/good health," in reality, about 58 percent of the group was either overweight or obese. Based on the findings, GE Healthcare launched a nation-wide educational campaign with an interactive Arabic online portal focusing on health issues --- www.healthymagination.me. This was aimed at raising the public's health awareness and promoting the importance of healthy habits.
GE Healthcare aims to be the partner of choice to the Saudi healthcare system by providing high impact comprehensive solutions and services while adapting technology, knowledge and expertise for a healthier Saudi community.
