Makkah, Saudi Arabia; November 2, 2011: The Saudi Arabian Ministry of Health, today, received the finalized plan from GE Healthcare detailing the comprehensive support to be extended by the company to the healthcare management strategies of the Ministry during the Hajj period. GE Healthcare will provide its advanced medical technologies as well as experienced manpower to support the healthcare management programs of the Ministry in the cities of Makkah and Madinah.
Among the highlights is the introduction of the Cyber FE Tele-Service an integrated approach that offers video support, greater site information for faster diagnosis, and immediate transmission for better and quicker care. GE Healthcare will also set up a temporary dedicated Hajj backlog in Makkah, with sufficient quantities of all critical medical equipment and spares.
Eng. Anwar AlHarbi, maintenance director of the Saudi Arabian Ministry of Health received the plan from Eng. Mohammed El-Demerdash, Service General Manager for GE Saudi Arabia, at a ceremony held at the Coral Makkah.
Eng. Anwar AlHarbi of the Ministry of Health said: "The Ministry of Health is undertaking concerted initiatives to support the healthcare management of the thousands of pilgrims who visit Makkah and Madinah during the Hajj period. We are focused on introducing the advanced healthcare technologies in our hospitals and healthcare centers during the Hajj, and ensure that timely care is provided to them. GE has proven strength in advanced healthcare technologies and we are pleased to extend our partnership with the company for our healthcare management initiative during the Hajj."
Eng. Mohamed El-Demerdash, Service General Manager for GE Saudi Arabia said: "We are honored to cooperate with the Ministry of Health to support its healthcare management in Makkah and Madinah during the Hajj period. As part of the finalized plan, GE will provide 20 highly skilled personnel to support the Ministry operations. The personnel assigned will include senior field engineers, leaders, service center agents and logistics specialists. GE will also enhance its stock of healthcare support equipment in Makkah and Riyadh that will ensure timely assistance to hospitals and medical stations in providing prompt care to the pilgrims.
GE is providing its advanced healthcare technologies including CT scanners, MR, Cathlab, X-rays, monitors, incubators and vital medical equipment that will assist the 32 hospitals and 150 medical centers in Makkah, 12 hospitals and 515 centers in Madinah and 23 hospitals and 195 medical centers in the Hajj Main Area (Masha'er) with a total of over 33,000 beds.
GE Healthcare has a strong presence in Saudi Arabia since more than 25 years, and employs over 200 skilled professionals. The operations of GE Healthcare in the Kingdom are aligned with the Saudi Vision 2020 that aims to provide higher levels of healthcare for the population.
With over 10,000 GE healthcare technologies products serving nearly 90% of all hospitals, GE has also been working with the Ministry of Health to help build a sustainable healthcare model under healthymagination.
In order to help hospitals under the Ministry of Health offer the highest technological quality of care, GE Healthcare has trained more than 1,300 Ministry of Health professionals. GE has also helped transform the operation rooms of eight Ministry of Health hospitals and six Nation Guard Health Affairs Departments through tools and methodologies that are all aimed to enhance operational efficiencies.
GE launched its healthymagination initiative in Saudi Arabia in 2010, and also undertook a public survey to understand and build on the prevailing concepts of good health.
