- Outstanding clinical results with GEM Suite, based on over 75 installations worldwide
- Regionally, w-Series systems have been deployed by prominent healthcare institutions in Kuwait, Saudi Arabia
Dubai, UAE; January 23, 2012: GE Healthcare, the healthcare business of GE (NYSE: GE), is showcasing two innovative and award-winning designs of wide bore magnetic resonance systems, Discovery* MR750w 3.0T and Optima* MR450w 1.5T with GEM (Geometry Embracing Method) Suite of Coils, at Arab Health, the region's premier healthcare exhibition being held at the Dubai International Convention & Exhibition Center.
In addition, prominently featured at GE's booth will be the company's MR Radiation Oncology options on the Optima MR450w and Discovery MR750w - technology that is playing an insreasingly imprtant role in radiation oncology and overal patient management.
"GE is very serious about humanizing radiology and making its MR systems patient-friendly, safe and without compromise," said Aziz Koleilat, General Manager at GE Healthcare in the Middle East region. "This complements our healthymagination initiative and our commitment to an earlier model of healthcare delivery focused on earlier diagnosis, which makes treatment potentially more effective and less expensive."
GE Healthcare's MR wide bore systems received the prestigious IDEA® Silver Award for patient-centric MR design by the Industrial Designers Society of America in 2011. The 3.0T and 1.5T w-Series (wide bore) address patient demand for a better and more comfortable scanning experience. In particular, the new patient-friendly design can help accommodate patients who are usually difficult to scan, such as larger, elderly or very young patients, or those who are in pain and require a larger imaging system.
The w-Series, with more than 200 orders and 75 installations world-wide including in Saudi Arabia and Kuwait, also incorporates the GEM Suite of patient-embracing, lightweight radio frequency (RF) coils, designed to adapt to varying patient shapes, and aimed at reducing patient anxiety. GE Healthcare's advances in coil design are made possible through the use of thinner, lightweight, flexible material that can be used with a variety of body types, helping to facilitate easier patient positioning with less pressure.
Further, the w-Series combines next-generation clinical applications and a full 50 x 50 x 50 cm field of view, enabling users to scan large anatomies with fewer acquisitions and lower exam times than is possible with systems with less magnet homogeneity. Both systems deploy OpTix digital RF technology. The thoughtfully-built Discovery MR750w features MultiDrive RF transmit, which overcomes many of the challenges previously encountered with 3.0T imaging through fully automated and independent RF pulse amplitude and phase control.
"We had our GE Optima MR450w 1.5Tesla MRI scanner installed recently, it includes GEM suite," said Dr. Abdullah Abu Jamea, PhD. Medical Physicist and Supervisor MRI Division, Department of Radiology and Medical Imaging, King Khaled University Hospital, Riyadh. "This modification in the scanner design helps our patients and radiographers to perform the MRI exam in a very simple and comfortable way. The integration of the RF coils in the scanner table reduces the time required for patient positioning and preparation and improves the workflow in our MRI unit. The wide bore, look and design of the scanner itself helps give patients confidence and reduce anxiety."
The comprehensive radiation oncology options include MR compatible positioning devices and flat insert, coils that accommodate the positioning devices and protocols which have been optimized for high resolution, thin slice imaging. The system installed in Qatar is also configured with GE AdvantageSIM, and interfaced to the treatment planning system allowing for multi-modality image registration and virtual simulation.
GE Healthcare has several decades of presence in the Middle East region, and its technologies support an overwhelming majority of hospitals. Now in its 37th year, Arab Health is expected to host over 70,000 healthcare professionals, and will feature over 3,000 companies from around the world.
