- Global X-ray solutions help improve diagnostic confidence and workflow, impact patient comfort
Dubai, UAE; January 23, 2012: GE Healthcare, the healthcare business of GE (NYSE: GE) is highlighting its next-generation products and solutions in radiography and radiographic fluoroscopy (Rad/RF), mammography, body composition and bone densitometry at Arab Health 2012, the region's premier health sector exhibition to be held from January 23 to 26 at the Dubai International Convention & Exhibition Center.
Aziz Koleilat, General Manager at GE Healthcare in the Middle East region, said: "Building on a century-long legacy of innovative leadership, GE X-Ray continues to empower healthcare professionals with workflow enhancements, advanced women's health solutions and intuitive designs across the portfolio.
"The innovative solutions are part of GE's healthymagination commitment to creating better health for more people across diverse clinical and geographic settings to help make patients' and providers' experience with X-ray a comfortable one. These technologies also complement the region's focus on reducing healthcare costs through an earlier model of healthcare, focused on early and efficient diagnosis that makes treatment potentially more affordable and effective."
SenoBright1, GE's Contrast Enhanced Spectral Mammography (CESM) technology that is on display at Arab Health, aids physicians in breast cancer diagnosis by producing images that illuminate and highlight contrast-enhanced areas. GE estimates that by 2020 more than 1 million women worldwide will be examined using SenoBright*, leading to more productive diagnosis paths for nearly 250,000 women.
GE pioneered mammography technology nearly a half-century ago. With SenoBright today, GE continues that fight against breast cancer with a suite of advanced mammography products that were developed to provide high-quality, low-dose imaging and a compassionate, patient-focused experience. GE also recently announced a global healthymagination commitment to deliver better care to 10 million patients by 2020 through US$1 billion in dedicated cancer R&D --- beginning with a focus on breast cancer.
GE's innovative digital wireless X-ray detector, FlashPad, is designed to enable flexible positioning and is powered by advanced applications for increased diagnostic confidence through high quality imaging. FlashPad is at the core of several Rad/RF products, including a new platform of mobile X-ray systems offering improvements from its predecessors in reliability, accessibility and flexibility.
Highlighted by the fully digital Optima XR220amx, these new mobile systems are designed to expand access by bringing digital X-ray directly to the emergency room, intensive care unit and other clinical settings. At the same time, these powerful compact systems offer ergonomic improvements that can streamline transportation and help improve patient positioning. This point-of-care capability is complemented by user-friendly touch screens, immediate start-up capability and more storage.
Obesity is a growing global health challenge impacting more than 300 million people worldwide. According to the World Health Organization, some 34 percent of the adult population in the UAE is affected by obesity. Since excess body fat has been linked to heart disease, hypertension, stroke and Type 2 Diabetes, monitoring body composition and measuring fat levels can help identify individual risk factors and facilitate improved health, performance and longevity.
Building on GE's vision of better health for more people, GE's new technology, CoreScan,* is a widely accessible body composition application on the GE iDXA system that quickly and accurately quantifies visceral adipose tissue (VAT), or visceral "belly" fat, during body composition analysis. CoreScan helps physicians assess, manage and treat obesity-related disease.
GE Healthcare has several decades of presence in the Middle East region, and its technologies support an overwhelming majority of hospitals. Now in its 37th year, Arab Health is expected to host over 70,000 healthcare professionals, and will feature over 3,000 companies from around the world. Visit GE Healthcare's pavilion, which will be located in Sheikh Saeed Hall - Stand No S3B10.
