GE Healthcare Expands Presence in Middle East Cath Labs

January 24, 2011

  • Dedicated Interventional team in region, double-digit growth further establishes company's position

Dubai, UAE; January 25, 2011: GE Healthcare, a global pioneer in flat-panel X-ray technology, experienced significant growth in Saudi Arabia in 2010 through the sale and installation of several Innova™ imaging systems. Visitors of the Arab Health Exhibition & Congress, taking place January 24-27 at the Dubai World Trade Center, can see the company's latest innovations designed to enhance visualization and improve workflow and dose efficiency, enabling interventionalists to perform the most complex procedures with confidence.

"Last year was a great year for GE Interventional Systems in the Middle East and, in particular, in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia where we experienced strong double-digit orders and sales," said Hooman Hakami, President and CEO, GE Healthcare Interventional Systems. "The Middle East is an important region for us, and we are committed to increasing our presence here to help better understand and respond to the local needs and deliver unparalleled customer service."

In 2010, Dr. Sulaiman Al-Habib Medical Center in Riyadh, the largest private health system in Saudi Arabia with more than 10 operating hospitals, purchased an Innova 3100 with advanced applications for use in both cardiology and interventional radiology. In addition, King Abdullah Medical City in Makkah, which was built to serve the millions of Haj and Umrah pilgrims who visit the holy city every year, purchased an Innova 2121 dedicated for pediatric cardiology and electrophysiology. This is GE Healthcare's first biplane installation in Saudi Arabia.

"The GE Innova Cath Lab family was our equipment of choice not only for the dose management abilities but also for the wide variety of advanced applications which help us improve patient outcomes," said Dr. Khaled Attas, Medical Director and Head of Pediatric Cardiology at Al Noor Specialized Hospital and Head of the Cath Lab at King Abdullah Medical City. "The GE Saudi and Middle East team has provided me with all the necessary information and opportunities to make an informed decision regarding our Cath lab selection in Makkah."

"The Middle East is one of our main focus areas for several reasons. It is one of the most advanced markets, and customers are demanding but willing to partner. I believe we have one of our best teams there, made up of well educated and highly motivated professionals," said Federico Gavioli, General Manager for Europe, Middle East and Africa, GE Healthcare Interventional Systems. "We plan to invest further in the region to strengthen the relationships with customers that already believe in our solutions and to build new relationships and partnerships."
