GE Harmony Announces Ludicrous Laundry Stories Contest, Declares August National Men Do Laundry Month

July 21, 2003

LOUISVILLE, Ky.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--July 21, 2003--Did you know that one in ten women have a husband or boyfriend that knows absolutely nothing about doing the laundry? According to a recent national survey commissioned by GE Harmony (NYSE:GE), its true, despite the fact that doing laundry is one of the oldest domestic tasks in existence.

To raise national awareness of this laundry divide, GE Harmony has declared the month of August as National Men Do Laundry Month, in an effort to help Americans better manage their laundry and to encourage women to throw down their laundry baskets.

The month will feature entertaining and educational special events and details of the nationwide survey on men and women's attitudes toward laundry.

Throughout the month, GE Harmony will also provide consumers with useful laundry tips and an in-depth view on men and women in the laundry room.

There are many household chores of which women tend to carry the heavier load, says Keith F. Luscher, author and relationship guru. Laundry is among the most significant -- and National Men Do Laundry Month is every man's perfect opportunity to discover the most important secret to creating domestic harmony -- sharing in chores.

Recognizing the great laundry divide that exists between the sexes, GE Harmony is launching a Ludicrous Laundry Stories contest that will expose the issue of laundry literacy and encourage women across the country to put more emphasis on sharing the chore with their partners.

One lucky winner of the contest will walk away with the GE Profile Harmony Clothes Care System -- the first laundry duo that truly communicates. The washer talks and the dryer listens, resulting in better clothes care. Harmony delivers king-size capacity, superior performance and high-speed convenience for today's on the go lifestyle.

Call for Ludicrous Laundry Stories

GE's Ludicrous Laundry Stories contest will run from July 21, 2003 through Sept. 8, 2003. Participants are encouraged to log on to www.geharmony.com and submit a 100-word account of the most ludicrous laundry lapse(s) committed by their husbands or significant others.

GE will randomly chose 50 winners, and a panel of independent judges will pick the five most ludicrous stories and post them on the GE Harmony Web site. At the close of the contest, a grand prizewinner will be randomly selected from the top five stories to win a GE Profile Harmony Clothes Care System.

The new GE Profile Harmony washer and dryer helps consumers take the guesswork out of doing the laundry. The washer talks. The dryer listens. The result is better clothing care. With this laundry pair, and a few laundry room tips from GE, ladies can finally relax when it comes to having their men take care of the clothes.
