Niskayuna research facility recognized with the Defense Security Service's prestigious Cogswell Award for third time
NISKAYUNA, New York - July 25, 2008 -- GE Global Research received the 2008 James S. Cogswell Outstanding Industrial Security Achievement Award from the U.S. Department of Defense's (DOD) Defense Security Service (DSS). The Cogswell Award is given annually to defense contractors that demonstrate continued excellence and innovation in their overall security program management, implementation and oversight.
GE Global Research was one of only 23 defense contractors selected from a total of 12,000 contractors. To even be considered for the award, contractors must receive superior security rankings from DSS for at least two consecutive years. GE Global Research has received superior rankings for three years in a row.
"We are very proud to be honored again with the James S. Cogswell Award," said Mark Little, Senior Vice President and Director, GE Global Research. "At Global Research, we take very seriously the responsibility entrusted to us by the government to work on research projects that are vital to our nation's interests. To win this award for a third time is a strong testament to the high degree of integrity our employees demonstrate on the job every day."
The DSS, an agency of DOD responsible for protecting national security assets in industry and providing security services to the Department, recently presented the award to GE Global Research and the other recipients during the annual training seminar of the NCMS in Mashantucket, CT. Members of GE's Global Research security team from Niskayuna attended the seminar and accepted the award on the Research Center's behalf.
As part of its research and development efforts in Niskayuna, NY, GE Global Research partners with various U.S. government agencies, including the DOD, on projects to advance new technologies in mutual areas of interest. Global Research has a well-established track record for maintaining the highest standards of excellence in industrial security. In addition to being honored this year, Global Research has previously received the Cogswell Award in 1994 and 2000.
The Cogswell Award was established in 1966. It is named in honor of the late Air Force Col. James S. Cogswell, who was the Defense Department's first chief of industrial security and responsible for establishing the basic principles of the Industrial Security program.
