Two-year grant to significantly expand Transitions Service Program
FAIRFIELD, Conn.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--The GE Foundation, the philanthropic organization of General Electric Company, today announces that it has approved a two-year grant in the amount of $1.5 million to Disabled American Veterans (DAV), an organization of disabled veterans who are focused on building better lives for disabled veterans and their families.
"The GE Foundation is honored to share in DAV's mission of hope to communities where disabled veterans and their families live," said Bob Corcoran, president of the GE Foundation. "By facilitating expanded DAV service to other military bases, we are pleased even more young troops will be taking advantage of this service."
This grant will allow the DAV to reach a greater number of America's youngest troops at the earliest stage of transition to civilian life. This will ensure that our nation's youngest, most vulnerable veterans receive all benefits and services they earned through military service. This program is particularly important to and will be especially focused upon troops who are identified as having disabilities related to their military or naval service. Timeliness in filing disability claims can be extremely crucial, making expansion of this program through the GE Foundation's grant essential.
"GE's support for the DAV's Transition Service Program will help ensure that the men and women leaving the military will have access to the full range of benefits they have earned through their service and sacrifice for our country," said Arthur H. Wilson, National Adjutant and CEO of the Disabled American Veterans. "What GE's generosity means is that the DAV's mission of service and hope will reach both today's and tomorrow's veterans."
Specifically, the grant will allow the DAV Transition Service Program to be significantly expanded. This program offers free benefits, counseling and claim filing assistance to troops about to transition into civilian life. DAV will have the ability to hire additional staff, provide outreach into medium-size military and naval bases and offer additional resources at bases already covered by the Transitional Service Office Program.
