GE Fanuc Intelligent Platforms Announces Optimized Boiler Control Solutions Based on Proficy® Process Systems

September 29, 2009

Proven control strategies provide reduced fuel costs lessens environmental impact

Charlottesville, VA, September 29, 2009    GE Fanuc Intelligent Platforms, a unit of GE Enterprise Solutions, today announced a new packaged vertical industry solution for advanced boiler control based on Proficy® Process Systems with PAC8000 controllers. This new solution optimizes the operation of utility boilers providing customers with sustainable benefits of reduced fuel costs and emissions lessening their environmental impact.

The Boiler solution is a collection of pre-configured control strategies and screens that simplify the implementation and improve the operational efficiency of a boiler.  Control strategies for Air Control, Fuel Control, Dual Fuel, O2/ CO Trim, Feed Water, Advanced Compensation Drum Level, and Automatic Blowdown are provided.  Sample operation screens that link to the control strategies are also provided thereby cutting the implementation time for System Integrators by up to 50 percent and enabling a simple and easy user interface for operators to monitor and control the boiler.  Once installed and operational, the advanced boiler control system can typically save 3 to 5 percent in fuel usage per year, providing an ROI payback in 12 to 15 months.

"With increasing pressure to improve operational performance, meet environmental specifications, and overcome rising energy costs, the Boiler industry solution is the answer Facility Managers are looking for," said Rick Davis, Technical Operations Manager for GE Fanuc's Process Solutions. "The Boiler solution packages more than 30 years of experience in advanced control systems for boilers, delivering that benefit directly to our System Integrators and customers to ease system implementation and delivering optimized operation and savings in the running of customers' boilers."

"Today, our customers are looking to reduce their operational costs and improve their competitive position," commented Steve Ryan, Director of GE Fanuc Process Solutions.  "Whether they are a manufacturer, hospital, university or office campus, the ability to reduce fuel bills and maintenance costs associated with boiler operations is delivered on Day One of the startup of their new system and continues every day forward.

"Spending money in today's economy is difficult, but the instant savings they begin to achieve has customers looking to replace their aging boiler controls to squeeze every penny out of their operational costs," Ryan concluded.
