GE Fanuc Intelligent Platforms Announces $1.7 Million Order From Northrop Grumman

September 08, 2009

Systems will be part of advanced signals intelligence application

CHARLOTTESVILLE, VA   September 8, 2009   GE Fanuc Intelligent Platforms, a unit of GE Enterprise Solutions, today announced that it had received an initial order valued at $1.7 million from Northrop Grumman's Information Information Systems sector (Reston, VA) for systems featuring GE Fanuc's CL11 single board computers and ICS-1555A high speed AD (analog-to-digital)  PMCs.  A total of 216 systems is expected to be ordered over a five-year period, making the long term value an anticipated $7.5 million.  The GE Fanuc systems will be integrated by Northrop Grumman into signals intelligence solutions  to support intelligence, reconnaissance and surveillance (ISR) information in tactical environments.

"Signals intelligence is one of the most rapidly growing applications for the US armed forces," said Peter Cavill, General Manager, Military & Aerospace Products at GE Fanuc Intelligent Platforms.  "It is also a very demanding application, requiring significant processing power in small, lightweight systems that consume low power and that can be deployed in harsh environments.  The CL11 and ICS-1555A are uniquely placed to deliver on those requirements."

The CL11 is a 3U CompactPCI single board computer that features an Intel® Core™ Duo or Core2 Duo processor. It incorporates sophisticated power management technology, eliminating the need for an onboard fan. The board supports up to four PCI Express™ interfaces, six USB 2.0 ports, two serial ATA ports, optional CompactFlash, VGA/SDVO, and one COM port at the backplane. The CL11 can be ordered as either a system or non-system slot single board computer. It is very well suited to low-power embedded computer applications and offers an extended temperature option of --40° C to +75° C for applications in extreme environments.

The ICS-1555A is a 1-, 2- and 4-channel 200MHz 16-bit ADC PMC module featuring a Xilinx Virtex-5 SX95T user programmable FPGA, and is optionally available with four GC4016 digital down-converters.  It is designed for demanding signal processing applications such as software defined radio (SDR) or digital receivers.
