GE Fanuc Automation and Packaging World Host Webinar on Integration of Process-to-Packaging Information Flow as Brewing Industry Best Practice; Quality is Main Goal of Worldwide Brewer in Shop Floor Information Exchange

July 31, 2006

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--July 31, 2006--GE Fanuc Automation, Inc., a unit of GE Industrial, and Packaging World, a leading publication in the packaging industry, hosted a webinar that focused on how one global brewing company, ranked among the top 10 brewers in the world, integrated its process-to-packaging flow to achieve its quality and business goals.

Moderated by Packaging World editor Pat Reynolds and featuring John Dyck, Director of Proficy(R) Production Management Software for GE Fanuc Automation, the webinar is available for playback at: http://www.iian.ibeam.com/events/summ001/15488 or at www.packworld.com under Supplier News.

"Achieving a closed-loop, top-floor-to-shop floor information exchange has become an essential part of improving the overall responsiveness of manufacturing operations," said GE Fanuc's Dyck. In his part of the webinar, Dyck discussed how COTS (or) custom off-the-shelf Production Management solutions like GE Fanuc's Proficy Plant Applications, unlocks plant information and provides production data with meaningful business context to drive operational excellence through real-time execution and Manufacturing Intelligence (visibility, reporting and analysis).

The Proficy solution Dyck described helps manufacturers in a broad list of industries. In the brewing industry, it helps accurately meet production schedules, eliminate batch overruns and integrate production schedule management with ERP systems to gain accurate, real-time insight into performance. This manufacturer's goal: support people in their work, enable process and measure performance. They are using this philosophy to their advantage and now are replicating their infrastructure throughout new and existing plants within their enterprise.

"With the real-time exchange of information between the ERP environment and Proficy Plant Applications, companies can significantly improve manufacturing and packaging productivity," added Dyck. "This webinar provides a real-world example of how one global manufacturer has taken the power of information that resides in their plant systems and channeled it into a process-to-packaging flow that has made their business more efficient and effective."

Packaging World's Reynolds was especially impressed by the questions sent in by webinar attendees. "Clearly this whole subject area - moving information from discrete pieces of packaging equipment to the MES layer and on up into ERP - is being actively explored by a number of packaged goods manufacturers," Reynolds said. "They are beginning to realize how powerful a tool this can be in maximizing asset utilization and becoming more efficient at meeting the real-time demands of the marketplace."
