GE Energy's Leading-Edge Educational Courses Provide Regional Energy Executives with Top Industry Knowledge

May 12, 2009

*Middle Eastern Energy Professionals Frequently Attend PSEC and Find Benefits to Their Careers and Companies

Dubai, UAE; May 12, 2009: Continuing its commitment to share best practices, power market trends and offer solutions to energy industry concerns, GE Energy has opened the registration period for its 61st annual Power Systems & Energy Course (PSEC).
The courses, held at GE's Energy Learning Center in Schenectady, N.Y., are offered in many flexible education options to ensure that participants from the Middle East and around the world have access to a wide variety of learning options for which they can register at ge-energy.com/psec.

Joe Anis, GE Energy's Region Executive for the Middle East said: "GE is a committed participant in knowledge sharing in the Middle East. Training and development programs such as the PSEC provide energy leaders in this region with the opportunity to deepen their knowledge in areas that will further drive energy resource use efficiency and sustainable development technologies, a key concern for them as they plan for infrastructure projects required to meet the region's growing energy demand."

The success of the PSEC program, attended by several energy professionals from the Middle East, is reflected by the achievements of its graduates, many of who have become recognized senior executives and officers in their respected companies.

"PSEC gave a global view on all aspects of my profession, which helped me a lot in decision making and navigating my career progression successfully," says Hassan Al-Naimi, senior engineer, Qatar Petroleum.

"PSEC did play a positive role in my practical career. For example, I took three weeks of courses about turbines and combined-cycle systems, power plant planning and other related topics, which helped a lot in the planning for the design of an additional fourth gas turbine-generator unit (GE Frame 6) to our power plant now under construction," said Abdullah Salem Rashed, planning specialist, engineering department, Al-Khafji Joint Operations (KJO), which is jointly owned and operated by Aramco Gulf Operations and Kuwait Gulf Oil Company. "We also are planning to introduce combined-cycle systems to our power plant."

Participants benefit from the in-depth knowledge and hands-on experience provided by the veteran PSEC instructors, including many Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) Fellows. PSEC is the largest corporate education partner of IEEE, which is the world's leading professional association for the advancement of technology.

In addition to insightful lectures by industry experts, the learning experience includes valuable tours of research centers and manufacturing facilities, as well as use of the Energy Learning Center's power labs and latest industry software.
