Abu Dhabi, UAE, 30 January, 2006: GE Energy will supply a distributed control system (DCS) to NEM bv of Leiden, the Netherlands for the Cairo North 2 power plant, an 800-megawatt, combined-cycle plant operated by the state-owned Cairo Production Company. This will be the first GE DCS installed in Egypt.
Under the terms of the contract, GE Energy will provide the Mark VIe-based DCS system, including hardware, system configuration, factory stage testing, technical direction of the system installation and operator training. The Cairo North 2 plant consists of two GE 9FA gas turbines, an Alstom steam turbine and NEM's heat recovery system. The Mark VIe will seamlessly integrate the GE gas turbines and Alstom steam turbine with the complete power plant control system.
"We evaluated DCS offerings from a number of manufacturers, ultimately choosing the Mark VIe plant control and management system by GE Energy for the Cairo North 2 Project," said Roy Swart, Technology Manager at NEM. "The Mark VIe ranked technically superior to other DCS systems and will help the Cairo North 2 station reliably meet capacity demands in this fast-growing part of Egypt, while providing flexibility for future growth."

NEM bv is scheduled to take delivery of the control system in mid 2006.
