GE Energy highlights wide portfolio of technology solutions for oilfields at Basra Oil & Gas exhibition

November 25, 2011

Basra, Iraq; November 25, 2011: GE Energy, a key business of GE (NYSE: GE), is showcasing its wide portfolio of technology solutions that are tailored to meet the requirements of oil and gas fields in the country at the second Basra Oil & Gas Exhibition being held from November 25 to 28, 2011 at the Basra International Fair Ground. GE, recently, opened a dedicated office in Basra, apart from Baghdad and Erbil, marking the company's commitment to partner in the region's ambitious growth strategies.

The businesses that comprise GE Energy --- Power & Water, Energy Management and Oil & Gas--- work together to serve the Iraqi energy sector by providing advanced technology and service solutions that cover all areas of the industry including oil, natural gas, water, renewable resources such as solar and wind, as well as grid modernization technologies to meet 21st century energy needs.

At the Basra Oil & Gas Exhibition, GE Energy is highlighting its gas turbines that have a strong presence in Iraq's oilfields due to their reliability and ability to use different fuels.

Joseph Anis, GE Energy's President and CEO for the Middle East said: "With the third largest proven oil reserves in the world, Iraq is focused on the effective utilization of its energy resources to drive the country's overall infrastructure development. GE's advanced technologies enable the oil & gas sector of the country to enhance their operational efficiencies and promote environmental sustainability."

The company's wide portfolio of technology solutions, including motors and compressor stations, are currently deployed to compress flared gases at West Qurna, Zubair and Rumaila oilfields. Among significant partnerships of GE in the oil & gas sector, the company will install its ecomagination certified ZeeWeed® technology to produce high-quality treated water at the West Qurna oil field.

Working closely with Iraq's oil & gas, power, petrochemical, refinery and municipal customers, GE's water business currently employs various water treatment solutions - including oil & gas flow assurance and asset integrity, fuel oil and cooling tower treatment, desalination and mobile water, and advanced wastewater treatment -- to maintain the performance of power generation equipment at several Iraqi power plants, including Baghdad South.

GE has a long history of supporting the infrastructure needs of Iraq in power generation, oil and gas, water processing, aviation and healthcare. Over 130 GE power turbines have been installed in the country to date.

In addition, GE signed a historic agreement to deliver another 56 heavy-duty frame 9E gas turbines capable of supplying 7,000 megawatts (MW) of electricity. Another eight GE turbines are being installed in Baghdad, which will add over 650 megawatts to support the electricity needs of greater Baghdad.

Supporting the power needs of the people of Kurdistan, GE is delivering another 18 GE Frame 9E turbines to Northern Iraq, designed to generate 2,250 megawatts by the end of 2011.

To further support Mass Global Investment Company, an independent power producer in Kurdistan, in maintaining the high reliability and overall performance of the GE gas turbines installed at the three power plants, GE also signed a multi-million dollar, multi-year service agreement with the power producer. The agreement also includes technical training for over 30 Mass Global engineers.

Operational training and talent development are also a key aspect of GE's commitment to being a reliable local partner. The company's acclaimed Oil & Gas University has imparted advanced training for over 100 Iraqi Ministry of Oil employees. To further empower Iraqi youth, GE plans to introduce its Graduate Management Program (GMP) in Iraq. To date, GE has trained over 300 Iraqis in technical and managerial skills.
