Students of oil and gas studies and ADNOC engineers to benefit from GE proprietary technical tools and programmes
Abu Dhabi, April 17, 2005: GE Energy President and CEO John Rice, signed an agreement with the Petroleum Institute in Abu Dhabi today to dedicate a specialized laboratory in its Department of Engineering.
On behalf of the Petroleum Institute, H.E. Yousef Omair Bin Yousef, Secretary General of the Supreme Petroleum Council and Chief Executive Officer of Abu Dhabi National Oil Company (ADNOC) accepted GE Energy's contribution to the Mechanical Engineering department. ADNOC, as a majority stakeholder in the Petroleum Institute which is also co-sponsored by four other industrial partners including BP, Shell, Total, and Japan Oil Development Company (JODCO), will also have the opportunity to train its engineers using the specialized turbo machinery.
H.E. Yousef Omair Bin Yousef emphasized that the GE Energy Rotating Machinery Laboratory is a significant contribution to the Institute and its students. "We appreciate GE's generosity in developing a lab which will enrich our academic programmes and allow both engineering students and practicing engineers who wish to benefit from continuing education, to gain technical skills in the field of oil and gas."
John Rice added, "As a leading provider of technology for the energy industry, we wish to share GE's advanced expertise in oil and gas technologies with the engineers of tomorrow. We are fully committed to developing the rapidly growing energy sector and we feel we have a major role to play in transferring our knowledge to students and ADNOC engineers; it gives us great pleasure to be working hand in hand with the Petroleum Institute to make this possible."
The new laboratory will be equipped with a host of GE proprietary tools used in training such as simulation equipment, software and hardware, in addition to turbines, compressors and pumps used extensively in the oil and gas industry. GE Energy staff will work together with the Petroleum Institute to ensure the facility is operational by the end of this year.
