GE Elfun Community Service Network Opens Jacksonville Chapter; Organization offers an array of volunteer opportunities

June 28, 2005

JACKSONVILLE, Fla.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--June 28, 2005--GE Business Credit Services (BCS) has opened a Jacksonville chapter of the GE Elfun Society, a nationwide community service network comprised of over 52,000 GE employees and retirees. The new chapter was created to more closely align local volunteer projects already underway with GE's overall community service efforts. Employees from BCS in Jacksonville will coordinate and staff local community service activities.

"Our mission in BCS is to build an inclusive structure that provides more resources to our communities while promoting leadership development," said Christopher Little, general manager. "We do our best to offer a diverse array of volunteer opportunities, so that every employee can make a difference in a meaningful way. And although we have an enthusiastic group, we are always looking for more volunteers from the GE extended family."

In March, GE Elfun volunteers contributed to the celebration of GE's Global Community Days by focusing on education and beautification at Greenfield Elementary School in Jacksonville. Forty volunteers from BCS delivered and planted new trees, shrubs and flowers on school grounds. The event culminated with a rally involving teachers and students.

"Greenfield is grateful to BCS for its green thumb and educational contributions," said Marlene Rassmussen, principal, Greenfield Elementary School. "This just makes us aware of how important our partnerships are."

Little added, "BCS's relationship with Greenfield goes back to 1999, when more than 20 employees began participating in a one-on-one weekly tutoring program. We've formed a close relationship with this school and feel a part of it."

More community service activities are being planned. To become a member of GE's Elfun society, please contact Miles Calvert, volunteer chairman, at 904-928-2205.
