"GE Day" to be Celebrated for the First Time in Saudi Arabia

April 03, 2006

Riyadh, April 3, 2006: GE, the global technology, media and financial services company, celebrated its first "GE Day" in the Kingdom. This is a key GE initiative to showcase latest technologies from its various businesses that include energy, water, transportation, healthcare, finance and the media. After Riyadh, GE Day will be held in Dammam on April 4, 2006.

More than 300 government officials, customers, media and employees attended GE Day to learn first hand from GE executives about new and emerging technologies in various industries.

Nabil Habayeb, GE's President & CEO, Middle East & Africa, said: "GE Day is focused on consolidating our relationship with key partners and the government. We aim to provide market-driven, customer-focused innovations that deliver total solutions for our customers. Customers can see first-hand the wide range of GE's portfolio and how we offer innovative integrated solutions."

In 2005, Saudi Arabia accounted for US$ 837 million in revenues, recording an average growth rate of 30% in the last three years. With offices in Riyadh, Jeddah and Eastern Province, Saudi Arabia makes up the largest GE workforce in the region with more than 600 employees, with local staff in key leadership positions in each business in the Kingdom. The strength of GE's staff in the Kingdom lies in the fact that they combine their local knowledge with GE's international standards of performance and capability.

GE Energy is one of the world's leading suppliers of technology, products and services to the energy industry. Providing a comprehensive range of solutions across the energy value chain, from supply and conversion to delivery, utilization and services, GE Energy is well positioned to help meet the region's demand for reliable, cleaner and more efficient energy.

GE's Gas Turbine technology is well established in Saudi Arabia, with more than 300 machines installed in the Kingdom. GE Energy recently marked the operating debut of the advanced F technology in Saudi Arabia at the Uthmaniyah Cogeneration Plant. These were the first F technology machines to enter service in the Kingdom and are designed to provide customers with high levels of plant performance and output.

Part of GE's wide ranging portfolio in Saudi Arabia includes GE Healthcare which specializes in innovative diagnostic and imaging equipment, patient monitoring and data systems and networked storage systems and software for healthcare professionals.

GE Healthcare has been established in Saudi Arabia for more than 25 years and together with strategic partner El Seif Development Co. has been making the latest innovations available to healthcare providers in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia - GE Healthcare's biggest customer in the Middle East.

GE Healthcare has invested several millions of dollars in the Kingdom in three strategic country service support centers of Riyadh, Jeddah and Dammam. This has led to a huge increase in the speed of customer response time, strongly supported by an expanded and vastly experienced local service and technical support team. With more than 150 talented and skilled local professionals, GE Healthcare has a significant workforce dedicated to supporting Saudi's healthcare industry.

In addition to GE Healthcare, Saudi Arabia is also a key market for GE's Consumer and Industrial business which is one of largest global suppliers of products for the home from lighting to home appliances with a Kingdom-wide distribution network for Lighting, Appliances and Electrical residential products. On the Industrial side GE C&I supports a large base of value added resellers and assemblers producing a variety of electrical distribution and industrial control equipment including a joint venture manufacturing compressors for air-conditioning applications. GE C&I also manages specialist network of components and equipment distribution houses for Industrial and commercial construction throughout Saudi Arabia.

Ali Hakami, GE's Commercial Development Manager in the Kingdom, said: "The presence of all our top management from across the region in Riyadh and Eastern Province demonstrates our commitment to secure partnerships with the Saudi business world. GE's portfolio of innovative products and services puts the company in a unique position to provide infrastructure, industrial and healthcare solutions for the Kingdom and we hope to contribute to its accelerated development."

Such is the importance of Saudi Arabia that it will take a lead role in steering GE's Ecomagination initiative in the Middle East. Ecomagination is GE's commitment to address challenges such as the need for cleaner, more efficient energy, reduced emissions and abundant sources of clean water. GE is committed to bringing to market new technologies that help its customers meet pressing environmental challenges. GE sees 'Ecomagination' as helping to tackle global environmental issues.

With regional headquarters in Dubai and a network of offices across the Middle East, GE has established a strong presence in the region and has built an extensive customer base. GE, which employs more than 1,000 people in the region, has also invested in numerous joint venture enterprises and its own facilities in key markets.
