GE Capital today announced that all 25 teams who were entered by the company successfully took part in the London Triathlon sprint team relay.
The event, hosted at Londons ExCel Centre over the weekend, saw more than 12,000 professional and amateur entrants compete in a series of Triathlon races. Saturday's sprint team relay saw GE Capital staff, clients and introducers, including MCR, Altro, Wilkins Kennedy, Mayer Brown International LLP and Baker Tilly, competing.
Helen Jenkins, British triathlete and 2008 World Champion, who is being sponsored by GE Capital in the build-up to and during the London 2012 Olympic Games, welcomed the teams and gave some welcome tips and encouragement together with her husband and coach Marc. The teams, which comprised three competitors -- one swimmer (750m), one cyclist (20km) and one runner (5km) -- then participated in their respective events before receiving medals and prizes from chief executive John Jenkins, along with Helen and Marc.
John Jenkins, CEO, GE Capital UK, said: "The performances of the teams entered by GE Capital suggest that our aim of healthy competition was successfully met, as not only were there several excellent results, but all of our teams managed to get around the course. We see the triathlon event as a great opportunity for people to look after their health and wellbeing, and we were delighted that so many teams could experience the healthy benefits of the event as well as competing against one another. I would like to especially congratulate the competitors from Altro, who were the highest ranked GE Capital team and the 15th fastest overall."
Following the success of the GE Capital teams in the sprint team relay, further celebrations were held on the Sunday as Helen Jenkins won Gold in the Women's Elite event. Helen completed the Olympic distance course -- comprising of a 1.5km swim, a 40km bike ride and a 6km run -- in a time of 2:01:01.
Helen Jenkins (no relation to John) said: "While from a personal perspective I am clearly delighted to have won Sunday's elite event, it was great to be a spectator during Saturday's team sprint relay. The performances of the GE Capital teams were, in many cases, quite exceptional, and I am sure that the participants will have gained from the health benefits associated with triathlon."
