Mississauga, ON--- June 30, 2014 -- Elyse Allan, President and CEO, GE Canada, has been appointed Member of the Order of Canada by His Excellency the Right Honourable David Johnston, Governor General of Canada.
In her citation, Elyse Allan is recognized for her achievements as an innovative business leader and for her community engagement.
"I am honoured to receive this recognition," notes Allan. "I appreciate the opportunity to bring the voice of business to policy debates and important initiatives that shape Canada's future prosperity while also supporting organizations that focus on strengthening our innovation framework and building our science and technology expertise."
The Order of Canada is one of the country's highest civilian honours, established in 1967 to recognize a lifetime of outstanding achievement, dedication to community and service to the nation.
Ms. Allan is a passionate champion for Canada's competitiveness, advancing the country's science and technology base and competitive fiscal policy. She serves on the Boards of Directors of a number of organizations including the Canadian Council of Chief Executives, the C.D. Howe Institute, MaRS Discovery District, the Conference Board of Canada and the ROM Board of Governors. She is past Chair of the Canadian Chamber of Commerce, Director, the Royal Ontario Museum, and the Public Policy Forum. Ms. Allan has served on a number of federal and provincial government advisory boards. She has been recognized as a YWCA 2012 Woman of Distinction (Business), and as a Top 100 Business Women of Influence by the Women's Executive Network (2011, 2013).
Ms. Allan holds a Bachelor of Arts in Biology & Environmental Studies from Dartmouth College in New Hampshire and an MBA from the Amos Tuck School at Dartmouth, where she also serves on the Board of Overseers. She holds honorary doctorate degrees from Ryerson University, Saint Mary's University and Royal Roads University.
