HOUSTON, TEXAS - April 30, 2007 :- For its development of a new, innovative marine riser system, VetcoGray, a GE Oil & Gas business, has been named one of 14 winners in the Offshore Technology Conference (OTC) 2007 Spotlight on New Technology Awards program.
VetcoGray's new MR-6H SE marine riser system offers improved safety and efficiency for the offshore drilling industry, combining innovative design with the field-proven technology of the H-4 subsea wellhead and the dog-style marine riser.
A prototype of the new system is on display in the VetcoGray booth (# 5527) during OTC 2007.
The MR-6H SE provides fully automated connection capabilities, as hydraulic units on the spider engage a cam ring on the box to actuate six dogs into the profile of the pin. This creates a full pre-loaded connection with an efficient and effective load path.
The fully automated capabilities of the MR-6H SE eliminate the need to place people in a potentially hazardous situation. The pin is lowered into the box and guided into place with an internal guide pin, then the spider automatically makes the connection.
It takes less than a minute to make or break the MR-6H SE connection, and a MR-6HSE string can be run in about half the time of a flanged riser system. These time-saving features can translate into cost savings for the drilling operator.
Now in its fourth year, the Spotlight on New Technology program gives OTC exhibitors an opportunity to showcase their most advanced technologies. Winning technologies are based on four criteria: innovation, proven technology, broad industry interest and significant industry impact.
