LE BOURGET, France--GE Aviation today announced the successful demonstration of several Linzhi, China Required Navigation Performance (RNP) procedures by a Boeing 737 airplane using the GE Aviation Flight Management Computer (FMC). This successful flight demonstration proved once again that the GE Aviation FMC is capable of safely guiding the aircraft through the most demanding of the world's navigation procedures.

"The upgrade supports our customers' need for safe, flexible and economical route options, particularly as more airports move to implement RNP worldwide."
The FMC RNP capabilities enable the aircraft to fly routes with a combination of straight and curved path segments, ideal for terrain-challenged airports like the one in Linzhi, China. The procedures also provide significant fuel and time savings by allowing operators to use more economical, shorter routes, in addition to routes that reduce the level of noise in a community. GE's FMC is standard equipment on all new 737s, and similar computer is customer selected on the A320, A330 and A340 series aircraft. It is also flying on a large number of Government owned aircraft around the world. The flight management computer is provided through the Systems division of GE Aviation.
