ATLANTA--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Oct. 29, 2002--GE Digital Energy, a unit of GE Industrial Systems and the General Electric Company (NYSE:GE) and a leading provider of critical power products and services to the digital marketplace, has announced the availability of the Signature(TM) 5000 Series, a new line of Uninterrupted Power Supply (UPS) systems for the North American marketplace.
The Signature(TM) 5000 Series is a three-phase UPS system that provides critical power protection for a wide range of markets and applications, including healthcare and financial institutions, industrial and biotechnology manufacturing facilities, transportation and telecommunication operations, and information technology systems. The first phase of the North American Signature launch will be for products ranging from 10 kVA to 150 kVA. Additional products within the Signature Series will be introduced globally in 2003.
The new GE Signature Series exemplifies our commitment to the development and delivery of innovative technology and products to the power quality marketplace, said Jim Shepard, president, GE Digital Energy. GE recognizes the need for highly reliable critical power products and services for our customer's mission critical applications. Through the methodology of Six Sigma, we continue to focus all our efforts on new product introductions, world-class manufacturing and global customer service.
The Signature 5000 Series operates in a double conversion mode, with true on-line voltage and frequency independent operation, resulting in maximum levels of power reliability. In addition, the Signature 5000 systems can be paralleled by up to eight units using GE's unique Redundant Parallel Architecture(TM) (RPA(TM)), ultimately achieving redundancy or increased power capacity in a flexible and cost effective manner.
Based on the performance of the Signature UPS, validated through extensive testing on GE medical diagnostic imaging equipment, GE Digital Energy was selected by GE Medical Systems, as a preferred supplier for UPS products to meet the critical power needs of its medical imaging equipment.
Due to its superior dynamic load handling capability, the Signature product family will offer GE Medical Systems and its customers a cost-effective solution with reduced lifecycle costs and a reduced footprint, said John Chiminski, vice president, U.S. Service for GE Medical Systems. The advanced technology of GE's UPS line is clearly differentiated from others on the market.
The Signature 5000 Series is built upon GE's field-proven, superior UPS technologies, which include:
-- Extremely low output voltage distortion reducing the need for over-sizing the UPS
-- Space vector modulation resulting in faster response and higher efficiency
-- Output isolation transformer separating the utility power from the load providing greater critical power protection
-- Superior battery management enhancing the life of the battery and reducing operational costs
New features of the Signature 5000 Series include: -- Front service access reducing operational footprint, maintenance and repair costs
-- Enhanced cooling design increasing reliability and availability
-- Integrated input filter reducing the input current distortion
-- Automatic start-up procedure with user-friendly interface
