Technology products and services provider sponsors Emirates Engineering Soccer team
September 26, 2005: GE's sponsored soccer team, the Emirates Engineering Team, came in second in the Emirates Group Football League tournament which took place recently in Dubai. Competing for the trophy were 20 teams from the Emirates Group Football League, each representing different departments which support the UAE national carrier.
As part of its commitment to supporting sporting events in the local communities it operates in, GE Infrastructure, Aircraft Engines has pledged to sponsor the Emirates Engineering Team for one year. As their official sponsor, GE will provide uniforms for the team which plans to compete in various airline tournaments in the UAE.
"We are proud to be associated with the Emirates Engineering Team and the Emirates Group - one of our most valued customers -- to help make sporting events among the airline's staff possible. The Emirates Engineering Team is an excellent team to work with as we both share synergies such as imagination, teamwork and leadership in what we do. Strong technical expertise is also another common trait which we are especially proud of," said Muhammad Al-Lamadani, General Manager for the Middle East, Eastern Europe and Central Asia, GE Infrastructure, Aircraft Engines.
"Our long-standing relationship with Emirates, one of the fastest growing airlines in the world, has allowed us to work especially closely with its engineering team to introduce new aircraft into its fleet. Besides working hand in hand in order to bring new aircraft into service, our successful partnership has helped to maintain its existing fleet over the years and has optimized performance making numerous new routes possible."
The team's captain, Ahmed Al Khaja, Procurement Manager -- Aircraft Systems and Equipment at Emirates said: "It gives us great pleasure to partner with GE and we are proud to be backed by a company with a rich heritage and strong commitment to the region and its people."
"GE and Emirates both understand the importance of sportsmanship as part of a winning corporate culture. Engaging in sports activities helps reinforce the spirit of teamwork among staff which in turn extends far beyond sports -- it actually helps staff to perform better and enjoy their work."
Besides challenging other Emirates teams in soccer tournaments, Emirates Engineering Team has also had the opportunity to play in numerous inter-airline games in addition to those of government organizations. The team recently claimed victory when they challenged Virgin Blue airlines from Australia and they took part in the Dubai Government Football League in which various departments such as Immigration were represented.
