GE 6FA Gas Turbine to Power New Cogeneration Plant in the Netherlands BELFORT, FRANCE--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Feb. 15, 2002--A GE MS6001FA (Frame 6FA) gas turbine-generator will be the heart of a new cogeneration plant to be built in the Netherlands.
Under a contract of approximately US$18 million, GE Power Systems is supplying the gas turbine for the facility, to be located in the Maasvlakte industrial area of the Rotterdam harbor. The cogeneration plant is being constructed by Lurgi Energie und Entsorgung GmbH of Ratingen, Germany (www.mg-technologies.com) on behalf of Lurgi Nederland B.V. of Utrecht. It will be owned and operated by Utilities Center Maasvlakte Leftbank B.V. of Voorburg, the Netherlands, a company of E.ON Benelux Services B.V., Rotterdam.
Scheduled to begin commercial service in December of 2002, the plan will produce nearly 70 megawatts of electricity plus steam for industrial use. The Frame 6FA gas turbine will be manufactured at GE Power Systems' facilities in Belfort, France and will be shipped to the Maasvlakte site in May of 2002. Natural gas will be the primary fuel, and a GE Dry Low NOx combustion system will be used to limit NOx emissions.
The 70-megawatt-class, Frame 6FA is the mid-sized member of GE's family of F technology gas turbines. Its output range, high exhaust energy, full packaging and robust design make the 6FA well-suited for a variety of applications, including cogeneration. To date, 48 6FA units have been ordered or installed for projects around the world, including 21 in Europe.
This project further expands GE Power Systems' strong presence in the Netherlands. To date, 95 GE-technology gas turbines have been committed for projects in the country, representing a total output of 4,304 megawatts.
