The Star, Metro Section, Malaysia - NEARLY 300 children from 13 orphanages under the Cybercare network were treated to the movie King Kong on the big screen recently. The cinema at MidValley Mega-mall was filled with the excited young children. Popcorn and goodie bags added to the merriment among the children.
To the children's delight, the hairy creature came to life in the form of a mascot that later posed with them for the camera.
Santa Rina and the God of Prosperity also went around distributing more goodies.
The outing was sponsored by General Electrics (GE), which owns Universal Pictures, the producers of King Kong. It is GE's first collaborative effort with Cybercare.
President of GE volunteers Roshan Thiran said GE planned to boost its relationship with Cybercare through a year-long Challenge, which is designed to inspire Cybercare Kids to do their best in academic and co-curricular activities.
He added that in conjunction with Chinese New Year, GE had also sponsored bulbs, fluorescent lamps, extension wires and plugs worth about RM5,000 to five orphanages.
They are Peyakin Klang in Selangor, the Divine Life Society Kuala Kubu Baru (Sivananda Ashram KKB), Pertubuhan Kebajikan Anak-Anak Yatim Islam Sabak Bernam, Pertubuhan Kebajikan Anak Yatim Islam Kota Tinggi in Johor and Rumah Tunas Harapan Payong Seri Sejahtera Kuala Pilah in Negeri Sembilan.
Cybercare network co-ordinator Chew Hoong Ling said she hoped more companies would sponsor such outings for the children
