--(BUSINESS WIRE)--WHAT: According to recent statistics, 25 percent of women claim their husband or partner has ruined clothing as a result of a ludicrous laundry lapse, leaving 89% percent of women primarily responsible for the age-old chore. However, the male laundry lapse was taken a step beyond the pink stained t-shirt and shrunken jeans, by GE Harmony's Ludicrous Laundry Stories contest winner Janet Lopez, of Smithfield, NC.
According to her winning entry, her partner tried to give his jeans the literal stone washed look by dumping five large stones into their now ruined washer and hitting spin.
GE's Ludicrous Laundry Stories contest, which ran from July 21, 2003 through Sept. 8, 2003, encouraged participants to submit a 100-word account of the most ludicrous laundry lapse(s) committed by their husbands or significant others. A panel of independent judges picked finalists for the heated contest and Lopez's story stole the grand prize - a much-needed GE Profile Harmony Clothes Care System.
Lopez's winning submission reads:
My man decided since he got bleach spots on his jeans trying to do the laundry that he would go ahead and give them THAT stonewashed look. He put the jeans in my washer added a gallon of bleach and 5 BIG garden stones, filled it with water and turned it on. Good thing I love him.
WHY: Recognizing the great laundry divide that exists between the sexes, GE harmony topped off August's National Men Do Laundry Month with a tribute and contest for the most ludicrous laundry stories out there. With thousands of submissions, the contest - along with the national campaign - served as a call to action for women and helped to raise national awareness of how Americans can better manage the chore.
The new GE Profile Harmony washer and dryer help consumers take the guesswork out of doing the laundry. The washer talks. The dryer listens. The result is better clothing care. With this laundry pair, and a few laundry room tips from GE, ladies can relax when it comes to having their men take care of the clothes.
