Boston, MA. - (October 3, 2018) Today, AiRXOS has been approved by the FAA as a Low Altitude Authorization and Notification Capability (LAANC) supplier with Further Coordination. The LAANC beta program has been implemented across multiple regions and has completed its deployment with the sixth and final region in the Central North as of September 13th, making LAANC available for commercial drone operators nationwide at 288 FAA air traffic facilities and approximately 478 airports. AiRXOS is now able to provide LAANC and LAANC Further Coordination capabilities to commercial drone operators at these locations. AiRXOS plans to begin LAANC services to select enterprises immediately and will have full deployment available to the public shortly thereafter.
The primary function of the FAA’s Low Altitude Authorization and Notification Capability (LAANC) beta program is to facilitate automatic Part 107 airspace authorizations at prescribed altitudes for operations within 5-miles of airports. In effect, an automated ‘seconds-only’ access at FAA-approved altitudes near airports. Those impacted most by LAANC are the Part 107 commercial operators operating in urban areas, which likely overlap with controlled airspace. For example, Boston’s Logan airport includes as a 5-mile radius, East Boston, Charlestown, Boston’s Back Bay neighborhood, and Cambridge’s Kendall Square. With LAANC, operators in industry’s like construction, real estate, photography can operate within the airport’s urban area.

In today’s Commercial UAV Expo America’s opening session, ‘Regulatory, Policy & UTM Updates’ at 9:00am EST in Las Vegas, Ken Stewart will discuss LAANC and other programs the FAA is using to shape the evolution of the UAS integrations into the national air space include the UAS Integration Pilot Program (IPP). Of the ten pilot programs, AiRXOS was selected as a partner for three: The City of San Diego, the City of Memphis, and the Choctaw Nation of Oklahoma. AiRXOS can now provide accelerated airspace authorization through its LAANC services to these programs.
