February 21, 2003 -- EVENDALE, Ohio - Dr. Mike Benzakein, general manager of advanced engineering for GE Aircraft Engines (GEAE), has been named a Fellow by The Royal Aeronautical Society.
Royal Aeronautical Society Fellows are recognized for significant aerospace contributions, and for playing a lead role in influencing and informing global opinion on aviation matters.
"Mike's contributions to aerospace extend beyond his focus on jet engineering and technology," said Corbett Caudill, vice president and general manager, engineering at GEAE. "Mike is a genuine aviation pioneer."
Dr. Benzakein joined GEAE in 1967, and has held numerous leadership positions in advanced technology, including leading both the CFM56 and GE90 engineering teams. The technologies in the CFM56 and GE90 jet engines have helped to change the nature of air travel.
In his current role, he leads GEAE's technology development efforts, including the certification and qualification of new engine products, and identifying technology requirements well out into the future.
Dr. Benzakein received an MSME in 1963 and a Ph.D. in Engineering Mechanics in 1967. Dr. Benzakein is a member of the National Academy of Engineering and received the Gold Medal Award from RAeS in 2001.
