Cox Communications, Inc. Selects GE Network Solutions Applications to Achieve Rapid and Efficient Network Implementation

March 04, 2003

SAN ANTONIO, TEXAS (March 4, 2003) --- Atlanta-based Cox Communications, Inc. has chosen the Smallworld Network Inventory™ portfolio of products from GE Network Solutions to help it achieve its ambitious plans for a rapid deployment of its GIS applications. Cox replaced its incumbent product with Smallworld Network Inventory in April 2002, and completed its first implementation within just eight months. Ultimately, the suite of products will be accessed by approximately 300 users, managing Cox's entire nationwide network. The announcement was made at this year's Geospatial Information and Technology Association (GITA) Conference in San Antonio, Texas.
David Johnson, Director of Corporate Network Design commented, "The Smallworld Network Inventory applications will provide us with a complete design and maintenance solution for our fiber and coaxial networks. We are very excited about the opportunities and benefits these applications will offer. Given that we are working with a 'best in class' company such as GE, we are confident in realizing those benefits and gaining a rapid return on our investment."
Cox is using the Physical Network Inventory and Logical Network Inventory applications to help it plan, design and manage its network. Cox recognized that, because the Smallworld Network Inventory portfolio provides an end-to-end solution, it is possible for Cox to have an overall view of its entire nationwide network, giving greater control and improved accuracy when planning new network design projects, or managing its existing network infrastructure. In addition, the company is now more easily able to deploy its network data to field personnel and therefore improve the time taken to repair faults and maintain its network.
Henry Stueber, President, GE Network Solutions remarked, "We are delighted that Cox chose to use our Smallworld Network Inventory product after evaluating many other applications in the market, and we are looking forward to working with them to deliver a number of significant business benefits."
