Dubai, June 5, 2003 -- Children from the Al Noor Training Centre for Children with Special Needs enjoyed a day of fun-filled activities, when 65 volunteers from General Electric Middle East (GE) visited the school, as a part of a policy to involve the company in the local community.
Isphana Al-Khatib, Director for the Centre, said of the day: "Our children benefited greatly from the interactive games, and thoroughly enjoyed their day. This is a great example of a company giving something back to the community. Just by spending time with the children, the volunteers gave them a day to be remembered. An exercise like this, helps raise awareness of special needs in a way that only hands-on interaction can give."
In its commitment to local communities and social welfare, staff from GE's offices in the UAE and Saudi Arabia participated in the various activities, interacting with the children. Activities organised included games such as basketball, tug of war, musical chairs, as well as singing, music and drawing.
"We are extremely grateful to Al Noor for giving us this opportunity. The experience was rewarding, and bringing a smile to the childrens' faces is something that has touched us all," said Abdullah Taibah, Corporate Regional Executive, GE Middle East.
"GE is a company that has always played an active role within local communities. We will be participating in similar activities across the Middle East. For us, all it takes is putting a little time aside, but what it means to those in need, and the gratification we feel is something far greater," continued Taibah.
GE has been active in the Gulf since 1933. Its activities in the region are conducted through direct presence, joint ventures, strategic alliances, and a wide network of distributors. GE has completed strategic projects in various hi-tech industrial sectors, defence-related contracts and major infrastructure developments.
GE is a diversified technology, manufacturing and services company based on more than a century of achievement and innovation. Today, it is the only company listed in the Dow Jones Industrial Index that was also included in the original listing of 1896. GE operates in more than 100 countries and employs nearly 300,000 people worldwide.
