CAA New Zealand Grants Instrument Flight Procedure Service Certificate to Naverus

December 15, 2009

KENT, Wash.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Naverus, a part of GE Aviation Systems, announced today that they have been granted an Instrument Flight Procedure Service Certificate by the Civil Aviation Authority of New Zealand. With this certificate, Naverus is authorized to design, validate, certify and maintain RNP (Required Navigation Performance) procedures in New Zealand. The certificate also permits Naverus to publish related aeronautical data.

Naverus has been designing and deploying RNP procedures in New Zealand since 2004. The new authorization will accelerate the deployment of Naverus RNP AR procedures for operators in New Zealand.

Naverus worked diligently with New Zealand CAA during the past nine months to meet the agency's certification standards. Prior to receiving the authorization, Naverus successfully completed an audit of its quality and safety systems by New Zealand CAA representatives.

In 2004, Naverus deployed the first RNP AR procedures in New Zealand for Qantas Airways at Queenstown. Since then, Naverus also has worked with Air New Zealand, to deploy PBN solutions that reduce fuel consumption, track miles and CO2 emissions. Naverus currently is developing RNP procedures at Queenstown for Jetstar Airways.

"This certification is a great example of how Naverus works with regulators to ensure customers can efficiently and rapidly implement RNP procedures to reduce fuel burn and emissions," said Naverus CEO Steve Forte. "We look forward to continuing our work in New Zealand to unlock the many airspace benefits available through deployment of Performance-based Navigation."

In addition to its new authority in New Zealand, Naverus has prior regulatory approval to design and deploy Performance-based Navigation (PBN) procedures in Canada, Australia and the U.S.

PBN procedures have the ability to simultaneously improve fuel efficiency, reduce aircraft emissions and noise, improve airspace system capacity and improve airline reliability. Naverus Inc., a GE Aviation business, is a global leader in the development and implementation of Performance-based Navigation and is working with aircraft operators and air traffic management providers in China, South and Central America, the United States, Australia, New Zealand, Canada and Europe to implement PBN solutions.
