British Standards Institution Achieves 500% ROI With e-Auctions From GE Global eXchange Services

February 13, 2002

LONDON--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Feb. 13, 2002--
Using GXS's e-Auctioning Solution BSI has Achieved Over 17% Savings On
Services and 13% on Capital Equipment
The British Standards Institution (BSI) has run its first e-Auctions using the Selection Fast Track Programme from leading B2B E-commerce provider, GE Global eXchange Services (GXS).
A unique package of consulting, community development and web services designed to get businesses e-Auctioning quickly and effectively, Selection Fast Track has allowed BSI to run its first e-Auction within 6 weeks and witness an immediate return on investment.
"We are always looking for innovative and cost effective ways of sourcing goods and services," explained Mark Slater, Group Purchasing Manager, BSI. "We were aware of the advantages of using a digital marketplace but were unsure of how to take instant advantage of this. With Selection Fast Track we have been able to quickly and easily learn how to get the most out of e-Auctioning, with little investment in new technology."
"We are delighted with the instant return on investment that we have achieved with the programme," continued Slater. "We have used the GXS e-Auction service twice already, to purchase within the communications and capital equipment sectors. Using traditional sourcing techniques we may have expected to see in the region of 10 per cent reduction on communications services and 6 per cent on capital equipment purchases. In the e-Auctions we actually achieved over 17 per cent and 13 per cent respectively. That gave us an ROI of nearly 500%."
Selection is the e-Auctioning component of GXS's Marketplace Solutions platform, providing a number of low cost services that enable companies of any size, industry or geographical location to start trading on the web.
In addition to the deflationary benefits of e-Auctions, companies utilising one of GXS's Marketplace Solutions can achieve other benefits such as reduced procurement administration costs, cycle times and inventory levels.
"BSI has always been perceived as a leading edge company keen to use the latest and most cost effective tools," commented Spencer Marlow, Global Solutions Manager for GXS. "With Selection, BSI has access to all the latest skills and techniques involved in e-Auctioning, and will be able to continue to achieve continued return on investment."
Within weeks of running their first e-Auction, BSI confirmed it will run a full programme of e-Auctions with GXS through 2002.
