PERTH, AUSTRALIA---September 6, 2011---At this week's International Desalination Association (IDA) World Congress on Desalination and Water Reuse 2011 in Perth, GE (NYSE: GE) will showcase how its advanced desalination and other water reuse technologies help industrial and municipal customers responsibly convert seawater into clean water supplies for commercial and public uses.
The IDA, a non-governmental organization of the United Nations, promotes the appropriate use of desalination technologies in water supply, reuse, pollution control, treatment and other applications. GE, a leading developer of advanced desalination systems used in some of the world's largest water treatment plants, is among the nearly 100 companies attending the IDA conference. In addition to serving consumers, today's water treatment plants help meet the global demand for more sustainable supplies of water for industrial and energy production as well.

One of GE's newest UF products that will be highlighted is the company's next-generation membrane bioreactor (MBR) wastewater treatment technology called LEAP*mbr, which addresses pressing water quality and operational cost issues faced by owners of municipal, industrial and residential water/wastewater treatment facilities worldwide. The new LEAPmbr offers the lowest lifecycle costs available from any MBR technology, while also being cost-competitive with conventional treatment. These cost savings, along with operational simplicity and a compact footprint, derive from innovations to GE's popular ZeeWeed* 500 MBR product line---the most widely used, reinforced hollow-fiber ultrafiltration technologies available.
