- GE Monogram® appliances take center stage in Bourbon Barrel Food's new state-of-the-art theater kitchen
- Two Louisville companies---GE Appliances and Bourbon Barrel Foods---have created a "kitchen theater" together to share their love for food
LOUISVILLE, Ky. -- Sept. 23, 2013 -- (NYSE:GE) -- Traditionally, when enjoying a glass of fine Kentucky bourbon you might think of sipping the contents. But at Bourbon Barrel Foods, located in Louisville, Ky., everyone is invited to eat their bourbon.
Founded in 1996, Bourbon Barrel Foods brought gourmet to the Bluegrass State by creating a line of sauces and spices that are aged or smoked in repurposed bourbon barrels. Its flagship product is Bluegrass Soy Sauce, the world's only micro-brewed soy sauce, which ages for 12 months in a bourbon barrel. Bourbon barrels are relatively small and handle small batch production well. The company's other products include a vegetarian Worcestershire sauce and a collection of bourbon-smoked sugars and spices.
Thanks to an agreement with GE Appliances, Bourbon Barrel Foods has a new Monogram® theater kitchen to demonstrate products to potential customers. "The theater kitchen provides a venue for the company to better connect with customers, potential customers and the community," explains Matt Jamie, owner of Bourbon Barrel Foods. "First and foremost, we will use the kitchen for educating customers about our products --- it's a fantastic resource for us, and our new GE Monogram appliances will really help us achieve this mission."
The downtown location in Louisville is a destination spot that will be seen by locals and tourists alike, according to Tim Matis, director of advertising. Bourbon Barrel Foods has gained international exposure as a result of being featured on high-profile shows, such as Travel Channel's Bizarre Foods America with Andrew Zimmern.
"We wanted to create a unique Monogram experience with Bourbon Barrel Foods," Tim says. "This space was designed to showcase our products in a way that offers a memorable demonstration experience." Both brands are considered premium, unique and authentic.
Gateway to Bourbon Country
Bourbon Barrel Foods offers an interesting backstory. Its philosophy is to make quality gourmet sauces and seasonings by adhering to a three-word philosophy: slow, small, simple. From the farmer in southern Kentucky who grows the soybeans for their naturally fermented, small-batch soy sauce, to the grower in Eastern Kentucky who harvests the sorghum they use as a sweetener, Bourbon Barrel Foods has a hands-on approach that includes searching for the best Kentucky has to offer and developing relationships with the farmers who get great satisfaction from seeing their crops go from the seed to the shelf.
