Award winning GE Profile(TM) Dishwasher with SmartDispense(TM) Technology Offers Revolutionary Features to Meet Consumers' Needs and Lifestyles; Quietest dishwasher in GE's history holds entire 45-oz. bottle of detergent

May 18, 2006

LOUISVILLE, Ky.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--May 18, 2006--Wanted: an intelligent, quiet, conservative companion with style who does dishes. This perfectly describes the new, first-of-its-kind, GE Profile dishwasher with SmartDispense technology. This new, award-winning dishwasher is designed for precise performance, quiet operation, time-saving convenience, simplicity and conservation, without losing style or sophistication.

Cleaning Up

A recent "PCBC Cool Products" award winner, SmartDispense has been cleaning up when it comes to awards. Within two months of the dishwasher's October 2005 launch, it received the Good Housekeeping "Good Buy" award and Popular Science "Best of What's New" award in the Home Technology category for its outstanding performance and innovative features. And recently, it received a Woman's Day Specials Kitchens & Baths "2006 Best New Product Award" for its excellence in design and technical innovation in kitchen and bath products and a Woman's Day Specials 2006 Home Remodeling Award in celebration of the year's best new products.

Most unique is the dishwasher's ability to hold an entire 45-fluid-ounce bottle of liquid or gel dishwasher detergent and dispense just the right amount for each wash. Detergent amounts are determined based on water hardness in the home, soil level of dishes and cycle selection. The detergent is automatically dispensed using a pump system throughout each pre-wash and wash cycle as needed.

A low detergent light (LED) signals when detergent begins to deplete and approximately three to seven more washes remain in the reservoir. Refills are typically only necessary once every two months, saving the hassle of loading detergent before every wash.

To obtain the most precise dishwashing performance possible, a water hardness test kit is included for consumers to test the level of water hardness in their home. The dishwasher's water hardness level can be set, allowing the proper amount of detergent to dispense.

New GE Noise Reduction Technologies

The GE Profile dishwasher with SmartDispense technology is the quietest dishwasher in GE's history. A new QuietPower(TM)7 sound package takes the noise level of this dishwasher to an astonishingly low 47 decibels (dBA). The sound package includes quieter spray arm jets, a quieter motor, an acoustic drain design, and a new quiet fill tube and quiet water valve. A concealed ActiveVent seals in sound during the wash cycle, then opens to allow quicker, more thorough drying.

The QuietPower7 package also features heat-bonded bitumen for exceptional sound-deadening and sound block toe-kick insulation. You'll almost need to touch the dishwasher to tell when it's running.

New GE Energy Saving Technologies

A new optimized hydraulic system uses less water while maintaining water velocity and pressure. Cycles have been optimized for the best wash/dry performance at the lowest energy usage. A reduced pump prime requires less water while the smart fill/cavitation sensing selects the appropriate water fill amount.

In fact, if all Americans used a GE Profile dishwasher with SmartDispense technology, over 20 billion gallons of water a year would be saved - enough to fill more than 25,000 Olympic-sized pools.

New GE Dry Performance & Convenience Technologies

Hand drying is a thing of the past with GE's Angled Rack Dry System(TM). Consumers are able to tilt the upper rack tines so water can easily drain off cups, mugs and bowls, reducing water residue or spots. When a smaller load of dishes or glasses are needed in a hurry, the Single Rack Wash(TM) selection cleans up to five place settings in the upper rack by using only the top and middle wash arms, conserving water, energy and sound when washing. This cycle uses a magnetic valving system to wash the upper rack only.

Left-behind food stains and specks are no longer an issue with GE's towerless wash system with CleanSensor(TM) technology. CleanSensor continually monitors water temperature, soil levels and the dishload in every cycle and, with the help of the towerless wash system's six levels of wash and three full-size, direct-feed wash arms, makes adjustments to ensure clean dishes.

The most technologically advanced innovation in the history of GE dishwashers, SmartDispense has reinvented the dishwasher. The GE Profile dishwasher with SmartDispense technology is not only America's most beautiful, but now it is also America's smartest dishwasher...you be the judge.

The GE Profile dishwasher with SmartDispense technology is available in stainless steel, white, black, or with custom panel options, with estimated retail prices ranging from $1079-$1429.

Estimated retail price for white or black model PDW8900L with front controls range from $1079-$1129; stainless steel model PDW8980LSS with front controls is $1229-$1259.
