FLORENCE, ITALY - February 1, 2006 : -- More than 700 industry representatives from around the world joined global opinion leaders in Florence for the GE Oil & Gas annual meeting, which was branded "Advanced Technologies to Meet Global Energy Challenges."
GE Oil & Gas, a leading manufacturer of capital equipment for the global oil and gas industry, used this meeting to showcase state-of-the-art advanced technologies, as well as to bring together industry leaders to discuss the latest developments and challenges in this ever-changing market.
Speakers at the event were senior executives from some of the world's leading oil and gas companies including ExxonMobil, Gazprom, Shell Canada, Gasco, Union Fenosa Gas, RasGas and ENI, as well as Dave Calhoun, vice chairman of GE Infrastructure, Claudi Santiago, president of GE's Oil & Gas business, Mark Little, director of GE Global Research and Lorraine Bolsinger, vice president of GE ecomagination.
In addition to the meeting presentations, technology topics covered during the workshops provided attendees with in-depth information on electric machine technologies for oil and gas applications, compressor design and validation, the latest developments in aeroderivative technology, service technologies to extend asset life and improve performance, unpiggable inspection technologies and asset data integration.
Tours of GE's Florence and Massa plants provided insight, respectively, on lean manufacturing processes combined with GE Six Sigma total quality methodology and the introduction of the world's largest LNG supertrain, which employs a GE MS9001 gas turbine driver, with a 45-megawatt electric-motor helper and the associated test program. The Florence plant builds and tests gas and steam turbines, and centrifugal and reciprocating compressors, and is the largest and most advanced of GE Oil & Gas' manufacturing centers. The Massa plant packages turbo compressor units and has extensive capabilities for conducting full load string tests on large units.
