- Unit Will Be the 50th GE Aeroderivative Gas Turbine in Turkey
- GE Technologies Already Provide 30 Percent of Turkey's Total Electricity Generation
ISTANBUL, TURKEY---June 15, 2011--- GE (NYSE: GE) announced today at the 17th annual ICCI Conference and Exhibition that to help meet Turkey's growing electricity needs in a flexible, energy-efficient manner, power plant developer Acarsoy Enerji will use GE's LM6000-PC SPRINT aeroderivative gas turbine technology as the heart of an advanced 60-megawatt (MW), mid-merit combined-cycle power plant in the industrial city of Denizli, in southwestern Turkey.
The 10-minute startup capabilities and efficient operation of GE's LM6000-PC SPRINT units make them well-suited for use in mid-merit power plants, which are modern, efficient plants that can come online quickly in response to sudden increases in power demand.
The Acarsoy Enerji unit will be the 50th GE gas turbine to be put into service in Turkey. The Acarsoy Enerji plant underscores GE's commitment to Turkey's energy sector, where a fleet of more than 300 GE gas, hydro, steam and wind turbines already is installed or on order, making up a total of 8,200 MW, or more than 30 percent, of the country's total electricity generation.
"Our Denizli mid-merit plant requires operational flexibility, high energy-efficiency, the utmost reliability and excellent environmental performance," said Emin Acar, partner and CEO, Acarsoy Enerji. "We chose GE for several reasons. In terms of technology, this high-output meets our needs perfectly. It can reach full power in just 10 minutes even while it offers extremely high levels of reliability and availability, which is a rare combination. But more than technology, GE offers business advantages. GE has a long history in Turkey as a reputable company that supports its large base of customers, and so we felt GE could support our needs beyond the technology itself. The fast, six-month delivery cycle and the ability to quickly procure and install another unit if needed are two examples of that support."
GE will provide Acarsoy Enerji with one LM6000-PC SPRINT aeroderivative gas turbine-generator package. The plant will run on natural gas and operate at a high overall efficiency, with emissions of 138mg/N3m for carbon monoxide and 51mg/N3m for nitrogen oxides, both over a load range of 50- to 100-percent power. GE is scheduled to ship the equipment in the fall of 2011, and the plant is scheduled to be up and running during the spring of 2012.
"GE is committed to helping our customers succeed by offering cleaner, smarter and more efficient energy solutions that address their specific needs," said Darryl Wilson, vice president---aeroderivative gas turbines for GE Power & Water. "Our association with this world-class project is a further demonstration of GE's commitment to helping Turkey expand its energy infrastructure."
