14 October 2004 - M-Pact Air Circuit Breaker - Modern Design from Industrial division of GE Consumer & Industrial

October 14, 2004

Built-in safety, simple operation and simple adjustment are some of the key aspects of the modern design of the M-Pact air circuit breaker range, manufactured by the Industrial division of GE Consumer & Industrial; which spans the globe as an industry leader in major lighting, appliance, and integrated industrial equipment systems and services.

The breakers have been designed, throughout the entire range, with the same height, depth and door cut-out dimensions. The electrical accessories are the same for the complete range and are easily fitted in the field.

This is according to Simon Hart, Sales Manager Low Voltage Components at the Industrial division of GE Consumer & Industrial in South Africa.

"Rated from 400 to 4000A, the M-Pact circuit breaker has been designed to meet the most stringent demands in fault detection and safe interruption thereof. The breakers are a modern compact design available in fixed or withdrawable format," Hart points out.

"Furthermore, they are available in 2 frame sizes, size 1 ranging from 400 to 2500A and size 2 ranging from 800 to 4000A, " he adds.

According to Hart, the breakers are designed with a short circuit breaking capacity, according to the international standard IEC 60947, of 50kA (type S), 65kA (type N) or 80KA (type H) at 415V.

"In addition, the breakers have the option of being operated manually or electrically; and are designed to offer multiple mains connection options," he comments.

Apparently, the M-Pact air circuit breakers comply with the following specifications for low voltage switchgear: IEC 947-1, IEC 947-2, IEC 947-3, BS EN 60947-2, VDE 0660 Part 101 and 107 and Utilisation category B. The breaker has been approved by the SANS (RCC certificate 0305056).

According to Hart, the fixed pattern has the following features:

In addition, the withdrawable pattern has the following features:

"The M-Pro protection relay, using the latest microprocessor technology, has been developed for use in the M-Pact breakers. There are 4 variations: M-Pro 17, 20, 30 and 40," Hart advises.

"Designed with the full benefit of advanced microprocessor technology, the M-Pro protection and management units offer a comprehensive menu of overload, short circuit and earth fault protection to satisfy the most enhanced client requirement," he maintains.

Hart concludes that, depending on the selected type, the M-Pro protection relays offer the following features:
