Less than a year ago, GE Reports brought you the story of some of the people working to build the Tallawarra B power station, north of Sydney, Australia. This week, EnergyAustralia announced the opening of Tallawarra B, which is the first dual-fuel gas-and-hydrogen power plant in Australia. It will add as much as 320 megawatts (MW) to the grid, enough to power the equivalent of about 150,000 Australian homes.

SaskPower and GE Hitachi sign agreement to advance small modular reactor development

Representatives from SaskPower and GE Vernova’s Nuclear business, GE Hitachi (GEH), met in Regina to sign an important agreement to advance small modular reactor (SMR) development in Saskatchewan.

The agreement will enable SaskPower and GEH to collaborate on project planning and facilitate the sharing of expertise related to the design, fuel sourcing and fabrication for the BWRX-300 small modular reactor. It will also support workforce and supply chain planning needed for a Saskatchewan-based SMR deployment.

WILMINGTON, North Carolina: January 25, 2024 — GE Vernova’s Nuclear business, GE Hitachi Nuclear Energy (GEH), today welcomed confirmation it has been awarded a £33.6 million UK Future Nuclear Enabling Fund (FNEF) grant from the Department for Energy Security & Net Zero (DESNZ). The UK Government has ambitions for 24 GW of nuclear by 2050 to help in providing energy security for the UK and for meeting net zero.

Ammonia’s Big Bang: GE Vernova and Japan’s IHI Aim to Unleash Ammonia Value Chain

The world needs a breakthrough to lower emissions from heavy industry, and a solution may be brewing in Japan. IHI Corporation, one of the country’s oldest manufacturers, and GE Vernova have teamed up in recent years to work to unlock the secrets of ammonia. Under their latest joint development agreement, signed on Christmas Day 2023, the companies will work for the next two years developing technology to combust ammonia in turbines that normally run on natural gas.
