HOUSTON, TEXAS (September 9, 2003) --- GE Aero Energy, a GE Power Systems business, has been awarded a contract to upgrade gas turbines at Northland Power Income Fund's cogeneration plant in Iroquois Falls, Ontario, Canada. This upgrade marks the first LM6000 PA to PD conversion in the world.
Under the terms of the contract, GE will supply two new LM6000 PD turbines with Enhanced SPRINTâ„¢ (SPRayINTercooling) for Northland's two LM6000 PA turbines as well as provide engineering for the conversion, package hardware to support the DLE (Dry Low Emission) engine and remote diagnostics, training and installation supervision. The LM6000 PD with SPRINT uprate package provides as much as an 18 percent increase in the power output of the LM6000 PA turbine and may improve its heat rate by 5-6 percent under ISO conditions on natural gas fuel. Enhancements in performance are a result of improvements to the low-pressure turbine (LPT) module and the low-pressure compressor (LPC) stator. The SPRINT system increases the power output by injecting water into the compressor. An LM6000 PD utilizes a lean premix DLE system to achieve very low emission levels. NO
