GE To Supply Ten Wind Turbines for Inner Mongolia Project
ATLANTA--Oct. 8, 2003--GE Wind Energy announced today it will supply ten of its 1.5-megawatt wind turbines for the 15-megawatt Huitengxile Wind Power Plant of Inner Mongolia, People's Republic of China.
The project will feature the largest wind turbines and the most advanced technology installed to date for a wind project in China. In addition to the wind turbines, GE will supply technical advisory support for installation and commissioning, as well as service and technical support for the project.
We see this project as a milestone for GE as well as for China where interest in harnessing the clean energy of the wind is growing, said Steve Zwolinski, president of GE Wind Energy, a unit of GE Power Systems. We are committed to our customers in China and to the success of this project, and look forward to future opportunities to support China's goal to bring 20 gigawatts of new renewable energy capacity on-line by the year 2020.
The Huitengxile wind project will be located in Desheng Township in the central part of Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region, 120 kilometers east of Hohhot, the capital of Mongolia. Groundbreaking is scheduled for October, 2003 with the completion of construction estimated for August, 2004.
The power generated by the wind project will be purchased by Inner Mongolia Electric Power Corp., the regional utility based in Hohhot, and will be distributed through the electricity grid system to consumers throughout Inner Mongolia.
The project is being developed by Inner Mongolia Longyuan Wind Power Development Co. Ltd., a company fully owned by Inner Mongolia Electric Power Corp. and by China Longyuan Electric Power Group Corp.
(CLYPG) of Beijing, the largest wind company in China with 50% of the country's total installed wind capacity. CLYPG is part of the China Guodian Group, one of the country's five state-owned generating companies.
