GE Power Systems Calgary Facility Awarded Health & Safety Certification from Alberta Government

January 20, 2003

GE is one of 57 companies in Alberta to receive prestigious award

CALGARY, ALBERTA (January 20, 2003) --- GE Power Systems' Calgary manufacturing facility has been recognized as a Partner in Health & Safety by the government of Alberta in Canada. GE is one of 57 companies in the province to achieve this status. This certification designates GE as a leader in creating and maintaining a healthy and safe work environment in Alberta.
First established in 1989 by the government of Alberta, Partnerships in Health & Safety was created to recognize that when employers and workers voluntarily work together to build a healthier and safer work culture, it ultimately leads to greater industry self reliance and less government intervention.
The award was presented to the GE Calgary facility at the end of 2002 by Mr. Clint Dunford, Minister, Alberta Human Resources and Employment.
"Health and Safety issues are a priority for GE Power Systems," stated Carolyn Shockley, general manager of GE Power Systems' Substation Automation Solutions business. "With this certification we will be recognized throughout the province of Alberta as an industry leader in health and safety. As the first GE business in Alberta to gain this status, it is an award we are very proud to have received."
This is the second time in as many years that GE Power Systems, Calgary has been recognized for its commitment to health and safety by the Alberta government. In 2001, the GE Calgary facility received a Certificate of Recognition for Health & Safety, also known as the Alberta Star. A Certificate of Recognition (COR) is given to Alberta employers who develop health and safety programs that meet established standards. Certificates are issued by Certifying Partners and are co-signed by Alberta Human Resources and Employment.
"Health and safety issues are a key concern for our business, and we feel our principles are aligned with the mission and vision of the Alberta government, to foster a culture where health and safety become an integral part of every workplace," stated Shockley.
