Consumer Focus III, Eco-Consumer
LOUISVILLE, Ky.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--The GE ecomagination Homebuilder Program, introduced in May 2007, continues to build momentum as more builders and developers sign on. The program helps residential builders and developers design homes that are not only comfortable, but that result in the release of fewer household emissions and are more efficient in their energy consumption and indoor water consumption than industry-accepted average new homes. These emissions, energy and water savings are achieved through use of GE ecomagination products and compliance with the requirements of Masco Home Services' Environments for Living® Certified Green program.
"Currently, builders and developers have committed to building more than 30,000 homes as part of the program," reports Patrick McElhaney, manager of the ecomagination Homebuilder Program. "In a challenging economic market, energy efficient building offers a competitive edge."
A 2007 Autodesk/AIA Green Index survey concluded that 70% of surveyed architects say client demand is the leading driver of energy efficient building and that the primary reason these owners and developers are demanding more environmentally conscious buildings is for reduced operating costs.1
Compared to industry-accepted average new homes, homes built to ecomagination Homebuilder Program specifications are designed to achieve:
At the heart of the program is GE's SmartCommand Enviro Monitor, which helps homeowners track their current and historical energy and indoor water consumption, as well as serving as the home's programmable thermostat and security system interface. Other options include whole-home lighting control, intercom and home audio interface.
