GE Completes First LM2500 Overhaul and Test at Newly Expanded Houston Facility

March 21, 2003

ATLANTA, GEORGIA (March 21, 2003) --- GE Aeroderivative and Package Services (GE APS), a GE Power Systems business, has recently completed its first overhaul and test of a LM2500 industrial gas generator at the company's newly expanded and upgraded Houston, Texas depot.
In the fourth quarter of 2002, GE APS conducted a complete 50,000 hour overhaul, which included disassembly, cleaning, inspection and repair as necessary of all engine modules, as well as functional engine testing on the LM2500 industrial gas generator. The engine was tested in GE's unique full-loaded test facility using natural gas fuel. The facility is also capable of testing the LM2500+, LM6000, LM5000 and Pratt & Whitney GG4 models.
Prior to the test and overhaul, the 22-megawatt, 35,400 HP gas generator unit was operating at the Kirkland Lake Power Corp. site in Ontario, Canada providing power for the provincial utility grid. The gas generator has been returned to the generating station and will resume full operation when the next engine is taken offline for scheduled servicing. The Kirkland Lake site is operated and managed by Northland Power, Inc., based in Toronto, a privately-owned and leading independent power developer in Canada.
The recent upgrade and expansion of the Houston facility, where the LM2500 overhaul and test were conducted, has established the Houston depot as GE's premier U.S. service depot for aeroderivative engines. GE APS invested $20M, increased floorspace, transitioned many highly trained technicians from GE Miami, and added dedicated teardown/inspect, assembly and test buildings. These additions and improvements contribute to GE's reduced aeroderivative engine repair turn-around times.
GE Aeroderivative and Package Services is a leading provider of aftermarket support for aeroderivative gas turbines and packages for power generation, mechanical drive and marine applications. Through its facilities in Houston, Texas, Rheden, The Netherlands and Agotnes, Norway, GE APS services a broad range of products, including the GE LM line, as well as engines from Rolls Royce and Pratt & Whitney.
