KANSAS CITY, Mo.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Jan. 12, 2006--Insurance is a critical foundation of the economy. That fact was underscored when Congress and President Bush approved a two-year extension of the Terrorism Risk Insurance Act (TRIA).
Now that the U.S. re/insurance industry has secured a renewed guarantee of support from the federal government in providing coverage against future acts of terrorism, what lies ahead?
In its continuing effort to offer practical risk expertise, The Insurance Leadership Institute at GE Insurance Solutions will host a webinar on the ramifications of the TRIA extension. A panel of experts will address new retentions, triggers and excluded lines, and how those elements will shape the way insurers extend coverage and make underwriting decisions going forward.
The webinar will also offer an "inside-the-beltway" analysis of how the TRIA extension was passed and the politics likely to surround TRIA's fate when it expires at the end of 2007.
"GE Insurance Solutions believes a partnership between the insurance industry and the government is essential to help foster a sound economy," said Joanne McMahon, Assistant General Counsel, Government Relations for GE Insurance Solutions. "Since the extension of TRIA doesn't offer a permanent solution, we as an industry must take action to ensure that businesses and the economy don't suffer interruptions as a result of this uninsurable risk."
Panelists will include:
-- Joanne McMahon, Government Relations, GE Insurance Solutions
-- Kim Prather, Underwriting Risk Leader, GE Insurance Solutions
-- Franklin Nutter, President, Reinsurance Association of America (RAA)
The webinar is free and available by phone and computer. For more information and to register, visit http://www.geinsurancesolutions.com/erccorporate/theinstitute/pc/web_home.htm.
